I'm a Seahawk fan and Wilson is a great QB, at least in the top three if not higher. Yes, it is ridiculous to pay anyone that amount, but the team makes the owners billionaires so they earn the salaries. I read the Seahawk news every day and skip over Wilson contract extension stories, I don't want to read about those kind of figures, doesn't help my bank book..
OK, so the owners are already billionaires, but if the players weren't making them the money they wouldn't be paying it. The next guy that signs will be paid more, it's the way it works.
On the other hand, how would you like to pick up your monthly pay check and discover the amount was $3 million? He now makes $35 mil a year, or.... $3 million every month, and half the year he is on vacation... and he has to continue to pick up that check every month for four more years. Doesn't even count all of his other well paid side gigs he preforms, along with mama's check...
Don't see him missing many meals...
Russell Wilson did not fall in with the 'kneeler' crowd. The main two Seahawks 'kneelers' were Michael Bennett and Richard Sherman, both quietly booted from the team. As far as I know, Wilson never bothered to denounce them either. Even if he wanted to, it would have been a no-win situation for him--team chemistry, & everything.
The Seahawks also declined to hire Colin Kaepernick, even though some football people said he would have been a perfect backup for Wilson due to their similar styles.
My beef with this is that Joe and Jane taxpayer got stuck with the $1 billion bill for Seahawks stadium, which in part made this $140 million payday for Wilson possible. After all, if your employer gets a free workspace at taxpayer expense, you employer can now afford to pay you a little more.
Because they're not the billionaire philanthropists they think they'd be, giving back to the community or maybe Africa instead of some obscure French vodka distillery so the hood can drink what you drink.
Wilson is a conservative Christian who abstained from sex until marriage.
You might need to rethink this one, bud.
He has strong religious views but don't know about the conservative part. After all he did move his wedding plans from North Carolina in protest of their transgender bathroom law. He also once did a "Public Service Announcement" endorsing Obama-Care.
With the new, taxpayer subsidized hockey arena in Seattle, we can presumably look forward to cringe-worthy late night videos of shirtless hockey players bedizened in gold chains, with their hot wife on top of them, bragging about their new $140 million tax-subsidized contracts.
