Grand Rapids is considering making it a criminal misdemeanor to racially profile people of color for “participating in their lives.”

I doubt this will curtail the abuse of 911 or stop racists from viewing people of color as menacing and suspicious. I simply appreciate recognizing it is a pervasive problem, it's harassment and waste of taxpayer dollars.
The problem has been that some people make it a practice to 'see black person, say something' instead of waiting until they actually see something worthy of reporting to the police. Hopefully this will curb that 'oh noooooo...black people' knee jerk response some folks have.

That is patently illegal. You cannot have a law that protects some races and not others.

Calling police on somebody for innoucous behaviour is stupid and wastes resources, but to create a separate "implicit bias" law is just as stupid as well.
Perhaps this "socially conscious" area will look into charging the snowflakes that get triggered over MAGA hats and lash out. Plenty of that going around.

Well, that's true - but there's a difference between being alert, cautious, taking precautions to remain safe* and calling the cops just because a black person is in the neighborhood.
*I've been called out before as blaming the victim whenever I've posted this sentiment. Note to those who are ready to pounce again - save your breath. You're nuts and I have no regard for what you have to say.
