Not immediately but yes. The average age of Republican voters keeps rising while people under 40 are rejecting the party in massive numbers.

How can it do harm for a criminal org to become more criminal...and mostly get away with it?
Did Nixon hurt Republicans? Iran Contra? Even GWB?

Nope.

I'm glad Trump won't be impeached. The fact that the GOP continues to support such a corrupt, incompetent person speaks volumes about them. Carry on, Republicans.

There’s a Bigger Prize Than Impeachment

Keeping Trump in office will destroy the Republican Party.

Do you think Trump is destroying the republican party or energizing it?
What tRump is doing is removing the GOP's thin veneer of being "American."

Pubs have taken the side of disregarding the law in their continued support of the swine in the WH.

Their cowardice has been exposed.

Karma is coming...

So says someone from the vile, anti-American Democrat Socialist party. Karma that.

Is Trump the destroying the Republican Party?

Were these more conventional times, I would say yes.

Trump is clearly an obnoxious jerk and not very effective at POTUS. But the Democratic Party is not much saner and does not offer much of an alternative.

You are right - "karma is coming" MIGHT be true. Then again it is possible that America as we once knew it is dead and gone. Fascist and authoritarian movements are gaining traction all over the world. People are getting more stupid and more easily brainwashed every day, as you can read here on C-D any time. History tells us that civilizations and nations have their ascendancy and they have their decline. USA is on the downward slope.

I completely agree.

If the Democrats were to offer a sane alternative, I think the (R)s might be in trouble. But when your top-polling declared candidate is advocating for terrorists serving life in prison to have the right to vote, I think the Republicans will be just fine.

Plus Trump will come to be known as an anomaly.

If the GOP could survive Nixon and the Democrats LBJ, renewal is always just around the corner.

Will keeping Trump in office will destroy the republican party?

My first reaction when I heard Donald Trump was entering the primaries was "he will destroy the party!"

That is exactly what I said. I based that on what I knew of him before politics. It was a pretty unsettling thought.

I no longer am certain he will destroy it, but he has damaged the party considerably.

The reputation and goodwill the party did until recently have has mostly vaporized, and will require a lot of work to regain.

More importantly, there is a disconnect between the 'base' and the donor class. As long as the donor class gets what they want out of the arrangement they will probably keep supporting, but these are the Republican establishment, they actually have the most influence in the party. Trumpies have been railing at the establishment continually, but they really can not do anything about it. It's like a shotgun marriage.

The ordinary Trump base supporter does not see eye-to-eye with the typical rich global elite who funds the party. In this respect the Trump base is more like a collection of Democrats than Republicans. This is an unstable coalition which probably will not last long after Trump retires or dies.

Those who are left to pick up the pieces will need to contend with the poor reputation of the party. It could result in a new party rising out of the detritus, much like the Republican party rose out of the carcass of the old Whigs.
