As if people who watch the movie are automatically the "smart" ones looking down at everyone else....or at least I suppose that is what those who know the Movie think....
Do you think anyone watches that Movie and thinks "Heck, I AM one of those idiots"? My take is no, yet - by numbers and definition - it MUST be that most who watch it are "useful or non-useful" idiots.
Hard to reconcile that. Really tough to imagine any movie specifically dragging in the 10% (perhaps) of Americans who are above it all.
I grew up in the era where men wore suits and ties to go to church, and even nice clothes at home. Woman wore dresses, and nice skirts out just to do shopping. People RESPECTED each other by the way they dressed. Over eating was considered gluttonous. The reason for the decline is the acceptance of disrespect and selfishness in society. It started with the Baby Boomers.
Obesity is more prevalent in less educated, poor areas. You live in Texas. You'd not be out of place in my area where most people are fit and slim. You rarely see huge, morbidly obese people. They would stick out. Move to the coast or places like Colorado.
There may be less morbid obesity in those places, but people are still more overweight than in the past. BMI has increased across the board in the US.

I was born in 1985, I believe people back then definitely dressed better. I am not saying their style is necessarily "better", but it seems like people took care of their appearance. Celebrities looked much better back then as well.
My grandparents (when they were in their 20s and 30s) looked better than many if not most of these modern day young "celebrities". It looks like people back then cared about their appearance and looked more natural. My grandparents (both sides) and my parents were very stylish too.
add: I remember I had a conversation with both my mom and my grandmother a while ago. They said they were never on any types of "diet". They eat three meals a day and never had to count calories. Many women today tried diets after diets, but people seem to get fatter and fatter. I think maybe it has something to do with our food today, too much estrogen and chemicals in processed food maybe.

You grew up in an era rife with disrespect and selfishness, it just wasn't directed at you.
Don't gloss over the warts with nostalgia. It wasn't all roses back then and DEFINITELY not for some that you are well aware of.
