You'd think this would obvious. But some people get their panties in a bunch when one of their heroes gets dismantled by a skilled interviewer. And then they whine "no fair".

Why didn't Neil know that Shapiro had disavowed and/or clarified the statements that Neil was asking him about?

Blaming "the left" for Ben's pathetic, snow-flaky interview? Why does "the right" always cry about being the victim?

The trouble with American journalism is that it has now descended into partisanship and it's the reason why journalists are no longer trusted to bring impartial news.
Shapiro went in unprepared and expected an easy ride and he had his arse handed to him on a plate by a very skilful interviewer following the BBC's strict impartiality guidelines.
Neil sticks it to everyone,Left or Right.
No it isn't. Asking tough questions is one thing, actually taking to opposite position is another.

I think he was making a bigger point. "Quit saying outlandish things to get the headlines that you then have to apologize for".

Whah...whah... Poor Ben! He cannot answer to any questions beyond a snowflaky interview. I thought Ben was in support of free speech.

This wasn't a debate. It was an interview.

So you're creating an analogy between Ben Shapiro, who holds himself to be some sort of expert getting embarassed by a journalist, to college students who don't think through their positions getting shut down by Ben Shapiro, whose career is based on developing and communicating his political positions?

Correct. Proper journalism means you don't warn the interviewee about questions beforehand.

Most of the people that flipped to Trump from Obama are likely moderate or independent, or likely identify as more socially conservative and at best economically liberal (but more likely protectionist). Most of the areas that flipped from Obama to Trump are more rural areas or very small metros.
