The term "Fake News" originated over a decade ago as "Faux News".
The news media is clearly in financial trouble due to the internet era and has been in decline over the past 20 years or so.
As such, they've slashed jobs and niche marketed themselves away from the mainstream so as to attract viewers.
On top of that, the 24-hour news network has turned some channels into the equivalent of ESPN where time filling loud mouths that essentially troll for ratings are what puts up the numbers needed to keep the paychecks from bouncing.
Despite Trumps usual bombast and hyperbole, the press is still plowing right along over 2 years into his presidency.
But setting aside politics, clearly the media in general is at it's lowest quality level in ages and the claim that this somehow started with Trump (along with the criticisms of the media) is nothing but a Faux statement.
Now these Media outlets are owned by large corporations and the mega rich who use them solely as a Left Wing Megaphone to support Democrats. They don't need thee outlets to make money. Comcast (NBC/MSNBC), Amazon/Jeff Bezos (Washington Post), Disney (ESPN, ABC), AT&T (CNN), and the list goes on. Pure Democrat propaganda.
The press wants to have their own "truth" aka "fake news".
The rich cabal in charge of the so called "free press" easily controls the minds and actions of the feeble minded. This group includes wealthy from other nations and are no friend to Americans or America. Trump is the most important person in the actual Free Press today along with Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, etc to challenge this rich and powerful cabal.
Obama disliked Fox, which was noted for its bias and inaccuracy. He didn't rant against any other news that was negative about him, and did not call for legal action against them. Trump, on the other hand, undermines almost all major news sources, mostly in vague terms (like "fake") but is so hypocritical that he will suddenly praise them if he sees something favorable there.

Which is EXACTLY what the Lame Stream Media does. When 90% of all your "reporting" is negative, even a blind squirrel can see it.
Retraction after retraction, only AFTER being caught, people being fired, the president of ABC saying after being caught, " we have to start being RIGHT NOT just being 1s", etc.
Trump hasn't made people turn against the 1st Amendment. Many of us already had a strong distrust of the media before he began his campaign. The bias has been noticeable for quite some time. The difference between now and then is more people see it and it's no longer a belief that is as easily-dismissed as conspiracy like it once was.
I am in no way at all in favor of a media that is controlled or restricted by the government. I'm also not liking a lot of what we see these days; much of the "news" being reported being only opinion. If the media were to try to pull their bias out of their reporting, people would begin trusting them again. I think a recent example of that is the Covington kid and the fact that the clip was chopped down to remove the context of the full clip. This was done on a very large scale and very few corrections were ever issued. There are numerous examples of the media being scumbags. When this stops and honesty returns, things will improve for them.

As many on the left live by polls, the media had had a LOWER approval rating then even congress for DECADES for a very good reasons!
Whatever. Polls consistently show that around 70% of Americans know that the press lie. You don't know thins because you...well, I'll let you figure out your own problems.
Anyway, the idea that Trump is in any way wrong for apposing an institution that has committed suicide through routine malpractice is asinine. Good luck carrying the water for a bunch of ****bags that no one, even most dems, any longer trust. Meanwhile traditional journalism will continue to die, and Trump will continue to run circles around everything you hold dear.

Those are widely held stock companies. The idea that the financial markets give a pass to say...Verizon after a 4 billion dollar media write-down this year (they fired a bunch of people at Huff-po as a result fyi) is completely laughable.
I mean think about it wouldn't the left wingers oh....want to listen to left wing media and thus produce ratings for them? That fractured ratings would then probably leave a network with a right wing slant to gain a huge market share, sound familiar?
Had there not been a free biased press during the time of the revolution, we would all still be singing God Save the Queen.
Where did this media bias mantra come from? The media is supposed to be biased. That's their job.
People confuse the radio and tv Equal Time and Fairness Doctrine with all the rest.
Those things that you want, unbiased media, were rescinded by Michael Powell at the behest of RR, at the behest of Roger Ailes to create Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. Their programing could not have happened if the radio and tv that leased airwaves from the federal government (all of us) had to allow equal time to other opinions.
Now enters cable tv. They can put on anything they damn well please because they have no deal with the FCC.
You want unbiased media? You are free to start your own any day you wish. say what you want. And that's the job of the press.
Now if we could just get rid of biased, lying politicians, the world would be a better place.
