Under federal anti-discrimination laws, businesses can refuse service to any person for any reason, unless the business is discriminating against a protected class.
At the national level, protected classes include:
Race or color
National origin or citizenship status
Religion or creed
Sex
Age
Disability, pregnancy, or genetic information
Veteran status
Some states, like California, have more protected classes than the federal baseline. In addition to the above factors, California adds:
Marital status
Sexual orientation or gender identity
Medical condition, or AIDS/HIV status
Military or veteran status
Political affiliations or activities
Status as a victim of domestic violence, assault, or stalking
State, county and city law recognize sexual orientation as a protected class in terms of employment and housing.
Makes no sense to me for any business to discriminate on the basis of orientation.
This alleged incident was attributed to a worker, a cashier, not the owner.
None of us were there and don’t know what happened.
You're joking, right? Stop drinking the koolaid and LOOK AROUND at what is happening.
Things have never been better for anyone who is LGBT. They are even being considered for MORE rights than the rest of the country.
LGBT is even being taught in elementary schools to young children. What it is, why they are so fabulous, and how to engage in same sex, as well as how to become TG.
Parades are thrown in their honor.
Gays and lesbians are the new spokes models for ad campaigns.
Child drag queens are the new marketing darlings.
TGs are reading to children in libraries and public schools.
Almost every movie/tv show has a gay character, which is far beyond what they represent in the US population.
You can't be serious. Ask any LGBT who was around 10, 20, 30 years ago.
If you are serious? Stop reading the propaganda, turn off the computer and go out into REALITY.
The annual Gay Pride Parade in Chicago is one of the largest in the world. It has been an event for nearly 50 years.
If this story was real, my guess would be the person who showed them the door probably was some kind of closet gay himself. lol
Seriously? Some men can be very insecure about their own sexuality. I have several male friends who feel flattered if a gay man hit on them. Some of these friends are special force Marines. if you are secure about your own sexuality, you don't need to overreact, period.
All the blah blah being said, sure, if you want to lose businesses, go ahead kick them out. <shrug> Remember, the way you treat others in public says a lot about YOURSELF. sheesh. Buy some class.
This selective high school has about 4500 students. The area has many branded and unbranded fast food restaurants. It is also a highly trafficked area.
The remarks are being attributed to a cashier, not the owner.
I agree that some males who trend publicly homophobic have unreconciled issues of their own.
As it relates to this situation, none of us were there. The owner has declined to comment.
I never believe any of these claims. the persecution complex that runs rampant with liberals is beyond pathetic. what an embarrassing bunch. thank god no one takes them seriously.
That you NEVER believe any of these claims says more about you than anything else.
How about LE officers who claim to have been denied service by a fast food worker, just because?
Christian pilgrims were the original Christmas Warriors. Public acknowledgement/ celebration of Christmas was banned in many colonies, portions thereof. As time wore on, immigrants refused to assimilate and eventually represented a majority.
Christmas was an ordinary work day for nearly 100 years before being declared a paid Federal holiday in 1870.
Don't even need a news update to know it. Chicago is one of the most gay friendly cities in the country, and no business owner in that city would go out of their way to alienate a giant chunk of market share.
That is the common sense reason. The other reason is that all these "they claim" hate crimes are always hoaxes.
The incident was attributed to a worker, not the owner.
The owner and employees have declined to deny or confirm the incident.
The students claim they initially perceived the remarks were about PDA, not orientation, until they were walking out the door.

Who knows?
I can't believe that the worker didn't speak his mind when the camera lady came and asked him. He instead took flight and said he was a "customer" and not a worker. But this man was sure to rob these youth of their dignity then chase them with more insults as they left.

hey you,
I said "IF this story was real."
Got it? Did I say I was there or you were there or anybody were there? I said "IF this story was real" sheesh
Homophobia crosses all political ideologies and ethnicities.
None of us were there and don’t know what, if anything, happened.
This place is more of a transient construction worker stop than the type of place that would attract residents of Boys Town. It also has proximity to the selective school with a student population of around 4500.
No shortage of branded and unbranded fast food joints in the area.
Yeah, it's practically across the street from the school.
The point being that given the numbers of gays in the vicinity, one could reasonably expect that it's not a rare occurrence.
100% agree that we don't know what happened other than the kids version of events.
