Why not? AI is great and does not really cost too much.
It heavily relies on high-quality human resources (engineers and scientists) but not on energy and infrastructures.

5G sends radiation signals and kills birds, it also required more regulations on society and human behavior.

Convenience is not the meaning of life, in fact it can be negative at times.

If people understood the consequences no one would support it. But government's and multinationals feel they need to compete against one another so we are left with no choice.

5G and AI are totally different things.
5G is a new technology to transmit signals. There has been NO confirmed study showing it affects the health conditions of humans or animals.

AI is artificial intelligence. Generally speaking it involves pattern recognition, decision making and automated machine operation etc by compter programs.

I found Americans who can speak Chinese (even if they are white) always have very different opinions from others.

If that were the case, it would surely never be allowed to be implemented. People were already so worried with 3G radiation.

But frankly, I can do without 5G as well, my 4G connection is more than fast enough. If it were 1/10th my current speed, it would still be enough for me.

It seems to me that when Internet access gets faster and faster, people don't really do more meaningful things with it, to the contrary, it promotes stealing movies etc.

I will use my 4G modem (Huawei, by the way ) for as long as it works.

Regarding the economy, I don't get the point of the Internet of things, virtual reality, etc. Maybe I am just too old to be interested in such "improvements". I grew up when there was no Internet, yet

Regarding China, just because Huawei is said to have displayed certain behaviors, this should not hide the fact that most Chinese companies and people are just fine. There is no point in trying to keep China down and portraying it as an enemy the way so many people keep doing.

The west will not tolerate another powerful culture/civilization.
If people no longer believe western values and system are superior and universally desirable, they feel at a loss.
