Fidel liked the job in Cuba. Roosevelt kept the job for 4 terms but it was brutal on him.

Just to be clear and get an understanding of where his base is on this....

City-Data Trump supporters: do you think Trump should be president for life?

Simple question to see whether or not Trump's base cares about the constitution or not

I'm now convinced you guys are simply creating your own alternate universe and using it to manipulate people in the one we're currently living in.

This guy obviously has zero respect for the Constitution or the limits of the power of the presidency, that much is clear.

Others including Cohen have said he may not give it up even after losing. This guy is a dangerous menace, a serious threat to democracy, and he needs to be ****canned stat.
trump is just a loser idiot who spouses out idiotic remarks & his supporters nod their heads in brainwashed awe. none of his words have merit.

Who would stop him? In all seriousness, who would stop him? I don't see anyone in Congress, including the Democrats that were put in office to fricking do something about this, making any serious effort to even slow his roll.

If he declared the Constitution void and made himself Supreme Emperor of the Universe, all that would happen is a press conference at which Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi say he's really going too far this time, and Susan Collins would say she's going to write a strongly worded email.

What's wrong with a "president" or even a "dictator" for life?

If that's what the people decide then it shall be, no?

Are you folks questioning democracy, voting, and "law & order"?

Trump's supporters don't really understand what they elected. They don't think he was being serious when he made those statements. There is absolutely zero doubt in my mind that if Trump could figure out a way to circumvent the Constitution to keep himself in power that he would do it. Realistic? We are going to find out.

As far as the "president for life" question, we wrestled with that a long time ago, in 1951 when the 22cd amendment was ratified.

You should always question and continuously improve democracy - because it carries within itself the seeds of its own destruction.

But legal channels can always be explored. That's all I'm saying. Hitler was a product of democracy and the Weimar Republic's laws were upheld. Millions dead later...oh well.

As for your last sentence one can always hope that it will destruct.

Bush was going to cancel elections to be president for life according to the left wingers.

Then that didn't happen and the tea party lunatics screamed that Obama was going to use national emergencies to cancel elections to be president for life.

Then that didn't happen and the left wingers are back to claiming the same thing.

Spoiler alert:
Next democrat president will have the right wingers claiming the same thing again.

Its like "derangement syndromes." The right wingers were accusing the left of Bush derangement syndrome, then the left accused the right of Obama derangement syndrome, and now its back to the right accusing the left. Next dem president will have the left accusing the right of derangement syndrome and on and on. And each time the people saying it act as if they have come up with some new, novel description of the other side's behavior despite the fact its been going on for 15-20 years.
