Of course in a country of 320 million people and a large economy, even a very small percentage amounts to a big dollar amount. But "most charitable"? No.

Not sure what the "who does most good" means. In what sense? Out foreign aid is typically military aid, or related to the military, and that does not always amount to good things, but only to higher body counts.

This is government-administered aid, which is BS, administered by governments for political purposes and forced extraction via taxes. BS. We're talking private donations people make out of pocket, the free will of people to choose to give over keeping for themselves out of disposable income.

Americans Gave $410.02 Billion to Charity in 2017 not by forced taes... crossing the $400 Billion Mark for the First Time, squasihing for example the UK's paulty 10 billion.

Do you mean ports, although surely China would be on any list regarding the worlds busiest ports, whilst in terms of merchant fleets, they don't dominate, indeed flags of convenience are generally used to cuts taxes, and in terms of military navies with the exception of the US, the others don't exactly dominate at sea.

Where's the UK on your poll?

In fact why have this random selection of countries?
Why not list all countries?

Eye of the beholder. I would assume most picked the USA as I did, but what else would I pick as I am American, as are most on this forum.

Like asking a crowd of New England Patriots fans who the best QB in football is.

I won't vote until the OP clarifies what they mean by "does the most good"!

Where's Canada, New Zealand, Australia etc

If every country was like Switzerland then there would be few wars and Geneva in Switzerland is the head of a number of international and charitable organisations that do some good work.

The topic is what good US is doing around the world as opposed to other countries, and foreign aid is an important ingredient in that. What people give privately is somewhat irrelevant since we dont know how much actually ends up helping anyone outside the US, or even in US. Most charities spend very little of the money they receive in anything good.

Exactly....

Poster: "I know...let's have a poll to see which is best: USA and a selection of other random countries, let's say Yemen, Ethiopia and Kazakhstan...."
(Americans vote)....
"USA wins!!"
(Americans celebrate)

The poll and therefore the thread makes no sense at all.

None of those other countries are on the list. The poll has representative countries from each part of the world. Does the most good is up to the person but usually includes things like liberating countries, making great medicine to treat diseases, private and public aid to people in need.
