A girl drops off an application at the store.

the manager asks how the applicant looks, and the employee replies, “Black girl long dark hair. Shortish.”

“Oh no thanks,” the manager said. “I don’t want those people in our store
These Same People stereotype blacks as not having jobs and being lazy. These same people decry affirmative action and Black History month. This racism happens to black and brown people with names too ethnic. Sometimes it's just casual bias, a white person is hiring and feels more comfortable working with people of a similar background. The result is the same, resume goes in the trash.

It's impossible to prove discrimination as the person of color simply never gets an interview/opportunity and the hiring manager isn't dumb enough to put racism in writing.

a. who are "these same people"? The manager is obviously an idiot, which is one reason that "Subway manager" was the high point on her resume.

b. thankfully, the manager was properly fired. the mother/teen should seek EEOC help making sure the incident is officially reported, and hopefully that ex-manager is known as a potential/former lawbreaker/racist.

c. is there any data within the last decade for blacks applying for jobs they're qualified for, and being declined - particularly when the job remains open? Is there data that shows "Hey, Subways fill 9 of 10 positions with white people, even though they have 40% of qualified applicants who are black?"

Definitely racial discrimination. Subway was right to fire the manager.

Who's stupid enough to text such a thing in this day and age. Smells like a set up possibly.

Probably didn't think it would be shared with the world.

Just like when the mayor of Hoschton, GA said point-blank to her employees "I don't think our workers are ready for a black manager" when a black applicant was rejected for a city manager role.

Casual racism in the south. Ho-hum.

Article said: "The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says it takes these types of accusations seriously and encourages victims to report any such incident."
No, you should only report such any incident when you know or suspect to be a racist/sexist/-phobic incident. By this, don't report ones you know you made up.

Glad that manager got fired!
