Seemingly attainable and reasonable things that will almost certainly not happen during my lifetime:

1. Return of human visit to the moon.

2. Passage of single-payer healthcare system in the US.

3. Sustainable, net-energy-producing fusion reaction.

4. Return of commercial supersonic passenger-flights.

5. Practical electrical batteries with energy-density comparable to those of alcohol-based or oil-based fuels.

6. Resolution of Social Security or Medicare funding issues.

7. Mass acceptance (let alone construction) of high-speed rail in the US.
