No matter what WE do...the entire planet's polution is 90% China, India, Pakistan and other smaller second/third world countries. Go tax and regulate THEM, then we'll talk.

Most of the dangerous gasses in North America is emanating from AOC's pie hole...

Back in 1973, I was living and Canada and the Arab countries decided to quit shipping oil to the US. I needed to drive from Vancouver to San Francisco a couple of weeks after the boycott started.

The THREE Republican Governors, Washington(Evans), Oregon(McCall), California(Reagan), immediately lowered the speed limit to 55 MPH to save gas. Evans in Washington dropped it to 50 MPH, but later raised it back to 55 MPH. They also ordered that streetlights be shut off after 10:00?? pm and all businesses were to shut their outside lights and signs when closed.

It was weird driving down I-5 with only an odd business sign lit, and all the streetlights off. We as college students, drove all night long. But it was I thought a appropriate response by the Governors to an emergency.

So here we are almost 50 years later. This time talking about life on the planet ending in 12 years. The Democrats say they want to impose TAXES to save the planet. Well, instead of taxes how about 55 MPH. The amount of CO2 generate by vehicles is significantly less at 55 MPH and transportation is a MAJOR contributor to C02 generation.

Washington, Oregon and California are very, very liberal states these days committed to combating global climate change. One Governor, Inslee is running for President on this issue alone. He is that committed to reducing C02.

Ah, but there is President Trump. EXCEPT speed limits are set by the states, not the Federal Government. Just like in 1973, we can have 55 MPH speed limits on I-5, with the streetlights off, OVERNIGHT.

All we need is for the three Democrat governors to commit to saving the planet and dropping the speed limit to 55 MPH......TOMORROW or AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

If you live in one of these states.....write the Governors and ask them to SAVE THE PLANET...SPEED LIMIT 55.

Democrats today are just as wrong as they were in the 70s.

NO ONE in their right mind drove 55- it took forever.

Well, I thought somebody would post this video.....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvV3nn_de2k

BUT on serious note....you believe in global climate change, but are unwilling to drive 55 MPH!!! REALLY...you want taxes and all sorts of other government restrictions??

When instead of that....all you have to do is DRIVE 55???

back in those days, arizona passed a law that allowed you to drive up to 9mph over the 55 mph speed limit, and only get a $20 fine for "wasting a finite resource". and if you were cool with the LEO that stopped you, you could often get away with as much as 15mph over the limit, and get the $20 fine.

The National 55mph speed limit had nothing to do with air pollution. It was about conserving oil.

You state that vehicles driving at 55mph make significantly less CO2. How much less? In truth, vehicles driving at 55mph would take longer to arrive at a destination, thereby producing equal or more CO2 than a vehicle that is driving at 70mph to get to the same destination.

At best driving at 55mph would be a wash.

Has there ever been a study about gas use and time on the road?

If person A drives 90 mph and drives 90 miles in one hour...

and person B drives 45 mph and takes two hours to drive the same 90 miles...

is there any gas savings since person B drove more economically, but for twice as long in terms of time as person A?

The National 55mph speed limit was instituted under Nixon and ended under Clinton. But don't let history bother your ranting "Doc".

Its not.

I can go back and find the citations. IF YOUR CONSERVING OIL, you are GENERATING LESS CO2.

Pretty much it has to do with simple physics and overcoming the dam air that a vehicle must plow through to maintain speed. Above 55 MPH your pushing much more air and consuming much more fuel.

So dropping to 55 MPH does significantly reduce CO2 emissions. I was surprised at how much it really saved.

In Washngton state, Inslee and other Governors have destroyed over 200,000 acres of endangered shrub-steppe habitat in the state. Countless birds are killed every year. Now the Inslee is proposing a carbon tax similar to that in BC, where my diesel was 7.00 dollars a US gallon last month.

Look...I don't want my landscape and birds destroyed by windmills. I don't want to pay SEVEN dollars plus for diesel fuel......but I WILL DRIVE 55.

Not to mention that Evans, McCall, and Reagan were ALL Republicans and it was their declarations of 55 MPH during the energy crises that got Nixon to use it as a national standard.

Democrats always TALK about protecting the environment, but they do less than Republicans when it comes to actual results.
