ThinkProgress, the website that is a project of the Democratic Party’s primary think tank, is facing dire financial troubles and bleeding staff, according to primary-source documents viewed by The Daily Beast.
A budget document provided to ThinkProgress management and obtained by The Daily Beast showed that the website was expecting a roughly $3 million gulf between revenue and expenses for 2019. ThinkProgress has never been a revenue generator, and has often made up for its deficits through fundraising efforts and funds from its mothership entity, the Center for American Progress (CAP). But the current outlook is significantly worse than ever before.
Is there some kind of assumption that people read that site?
It's the same old story we figured out 20+ years ago - if everyone has a blog, that leaves almost no one to read any of them.
Other than a circus here and there, the old line news sites seem to be getting most of the traffic (NYT, WaPo, etc.).
Once in a while, some hate gets whipped up and sensationalists sites will get popular.....but, in general, there is only so much that people can digest.
I asume most people who read news get it from aggregation (google news, apple news, facebook, etc.) and perhaps one or two subscriptions (WaPo, etc.).
Cable news...well, that's not news. So it doesn't count. That's just hired guns giving the opinion they are paid to spout...on the actual news itself.
Just checked web stats....pretty much as above. News.google.com is perhaps top then a bunch like CNN, WaPo, NYT, Foxnews, CNN web sites, etc.
When one considers many pay for the WaPo and NYT, that makes their numbers doubly impressive. Free sites usually far outrank paid sites.
