Why are these things even legal?

Be that as it may, thank heaven for small favors.

Completely stupid that they are even regulated. Either way, in the next week or two my paperwork will be done, then the waiting starts.

Ear plugs. They're called ear plugs. You can get a box full of them at Lowes for just a few bucks.

Would you expect to have time to deploy hearing protection when TSHTF?

And a suppressor works much better at the range. It doesn't shut out the sounds you need to hear.

Lots of other ways to do that...but I don't want an active shooter's shots to be silenced in the slightest.

I wonder if law enforcement is exempt?

Too many crazy shooters and gun killings in this country to allow widespread use of silencers.

Unfortunate but all the murderers ruined what could have been a good thing.

This thread shows how ignorant some people are on this subject.

While I would agree with the scotus that suppressors (yes that is the correct terminology) are not firearms protected by the 2nd amendment, neither are they the menace some people think they are.

For starters, suppressors do not "silence" a firearm being discharged. Instead they reduce the decibel level of the shot. But unlike the Hollywood portrayal of stealthy assassins shooting people in silence, it just reduces the sound to tolerable levels.
Try listening to a suppressed shot and you will notice it is not "silenced".

Heck in many countries they are required as a safety measure to protect peoples hearing, and to reduce noise position.

Frankly it is absurd that this safety equipment is restricted unless you purchase special taxes for the ability to legally own them.
