I just checked it, and the link worked for me.

And I did read the Goodreads reviews AND the first couple of pages of the online PDF copy of the book, as it is not available at the library and it is out of print, with available print used copies starting at about $25.00.

And as you have read it, why do you recommend it? (I am not sure if you are in favor of "open arms" immigration or against it.)

I was just passing on what others have said, as you provided nothing about the book, just that it was "great" and that every high school student should read it.

Feel free to put me on your Ignore list. I promise I won't mind!

Portland Maine has always had a strong African community and that's why many end up there.
According to other views....the problem is with how Trump has changed immigration processing. Interesting......seems that the Trump administration is causing more of a stress on the southern border than there needs to be.

If you want to see the end result of a broken immigration system and a failure of American leadership, look no further than the city of Portland’s family shelter.

The shelter is now overflowing with family of asylum seekers, mostly from sub-Saharan Africa, where conflict has driven a record number of people from their homes.

Those families would have once come to the United States as official refugees, with the resettlement program to support them. Or they would have traveled here on visas before applying for affirmative asylum, giving them a better shot at obtaining asylum and, thus, the right to work to support themselves.

Instead, with those avenues largely cut off by the Trump administration, they are sleeping on mats in a converted gym and cafeteria.
.......

There are now 199 noncitizens seeking shelter in Portland, 126 of whom came up through the southern border. Five years ago, just 61 noncitizens were seeking shelter, and none them had come through Mexico, a reflection of the recent changes in immigration
policy.

I hate to say it, but this country is basically overrun with poor, non English speaking illegals. I just spent two weeks in Dallas for work and more people were speaking Spanish than English at the stores and hotel.

Texas will be blue in 4-8 years. These illegals get free healthcare already along with who knows what else. Itís a huge drain on the system and if a socialist becomes president I think the system would collapse. Itís not racist to acknowledge we have a huge illegal immigration problem from dirt poor countries. Congress is incapable of putting Americans first and stopping this problem. Money that goes to illegals for healthcare/food/shelter could be going towards our citizens in need.

I get it. It does make sense. Dems and libs crave and need more voters from anywhere in the world and they will do whatever it takes to achieve this. Also they love providing freebies as many as possible to all these illegals to ingratiate them to their side and to keep them dependent upon them so they can control them.

It's not just about political correctness - it's about the disease of 'my party, right or wrong'.

All of our pols put Americans last. We should be holding their feet to the fire and we're not. We're worse than they are.
