And if the U.S. Soccer Federation didn't have a policy requiring players to stand respectfully during the playing of the anthem, she'd be taking a knee again, as she did in 2016.
Poor coaching? They made all the subs they could, and goals matter in the group stage. As a soccer-playing female, surely you know that? You expect the coach to say, "Okay ladies, we are up pretty good on them, let's just pass the ball around on our side for the next 30 minutes. Wouldn't want to upset Thailand's players and coaches, or get too far ahead in the standings!".
How ridiculous. You sound like these MLB fans who get angry at the Dominican guys wearing jewelry, or people flipping a bat. "It's bad sportsmanship!"... Jesus, you guys are truly the "snowflakes".
That being said, sure, maybe the celebrations for the players who scored more than 1 goal were a little overboard. Who cares?
You’re reacting this strongly over a difference of opinion but I’m the snowflake here? HA!
After a 5-7 point spread that late in a game it’s common to switch out player positions, try new moves in development, etc. I realize it’s early WC competition, but it was a total runaway, and the game could have been completed with a bit more decorum. I hope my opinion doesn’t present you with yet another case of the vapors.
And to be fair, she is within her right to do so. Forced patriotism isn't patriotism, it is authoritarian. Hirohito and Mussolini did that during the second World War along with Hitler, Stalin and Krushev. I'm pretty sure you'd cheer someone that hated Obama doing this. I'm pretty sure you are the type to cat-call, whistle or cheer the high notes during the anthem or run a flag off your truck. So please, do is a favor get off your high horse.
I've only watched one soccer match in my life. I was invited to attend a world cup men's soccer match in NY years ago and went because I like to try new things and love sports. I hated the entire event. it was so hot in the stands I almost passed out and, more importantly, didn't have a clue about soccer rules. I didn't know what was going on and found the game boring!
never heard of this athlete. she is entitled to her opinion.

Women’s soccer wouldn’t exist if not for Title IX garbage.
