well, imagine you are just a civilian who has never served, and you know a veteran who suffers from PTSD.
You come up to him and say, "I know a lot of veterans who don't have PTSD because they are strong enough to handle it, you cannot, but don't worry, lookie lookie, here I am and I care about you and i can help."
Not very helpful, right?
The point here is to create a non-judgmental environment for them, so they CAN go seek help, so they don't feel they need to HIDE their symptoms. That is the first step. sheesh, not a foreign concept. The reality is that a lot of veterans refuse to seek help because of the stigma associated with PTSD.

And that is the thing. Trump has never served in the military. He wouldn't know what someone with PTSD is going through. He tried to dodge going into the military. This is all the more reason I find his comments reprehensible. I've never been in the mililtary. I also don't know what every person with PTSD goes through. This is what I do know. Said persons are going through really hard times. I know that many veterans have a difficult time transisitioning back into civilian life.
I agree that getting help is a good thing. Saying "they can't handle it" isn't creating a non-judgemental environment. All it does is appeal to some sort of old school way of thinking.
