If tariffs supposedly hurt the one imposing them, as libs allege about Trump's tariffs, then why are all these other countries so quick to impose retaliatory tariffs?

It hurts some sectors of society while others benefit. It definitely hurts exporters.

And Trumps tariffs were supposed to lower Americas trade deficit, but in 2018 America had a trade deficit of $891 billion dollars (the largest trade deficit in American history.)
U.S. Trade Deficit Hits Highest Level in History at $891.3B | Fortune

And Trumps tariffs were supposed to bring jobs back to America, but instead American companies are simply moving their China manufacturing to other countries. Example, since Trump's tariffs began American imports from Vietnam have risen by 40.2%. And US factories in China are simply moving to Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Mexico.

Then retaliatory tariffs from other countries are forever taking customers away from American businesses. China used to buy large amounts of soybeans from America, but now China is buying soybeans from Russia, and Russia's soybean production has increased to its highest level in its 90 year history. And Trumps trade wars are causing the same customer base loss for American almond and apple farmers.

Trumps China tariffs also threaten 400,000 American equipment manufacturing jobs.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...g-400-000-jobs

Trumps China tariffs threaten 1,000's of jobs in the American chemical industry.
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/bus...l-13837053.php

In total Trumps tariffs threaten over 700,000 American jobs.

And then Trumps tariffs will cost the typical American family $831 dollars in extra spending per year.

When will president Trump negotiate a China trade deal? (currently China says "Beijing is prepared for a long economic battle")

When will Trump negotiate a China deal that stops intellectual property theft from America?
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-u...-idUSKCN1TH05I

And because of Trumps policies and actions China and Russia have joined forces militarily (and this new China/Russia military partnership threatens America's position as the preeminent global power.)
https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/08/polit...hip/index.html

Can you explain how Trumps tariffs will help American businesses, bring jobs back to America, help American consumers, reduce our trade deficits, stop Chinese intellectual property theft, and stop China from becoming a military threat to America?
How dare you bring facts and figures to this thread.

This is unheard of.

This upcoming Trump-Xi meeting at G20 may not happen (Xi never wants it), and even if it happens it may not yield and results. Xi is in for a long fight as he called it the new long march.

1000 dollar air conditioners and 600 dollar low end washers coming your way!

2 years ago you could get a low end washer for 280 bucks 5 times a year and 300 bucks the rest of the year. Now they are 400. The US makers imply copied the foreign competitions prices to increase their profits.

Is this new math? How does a $280 washer increase in price by 215% due to a 25% tariff?
