Due Process and the right to a speedy trial.
In this case, the witness first had his property stolen(phone he was recording the encounter with) and then days later a warrant issued for interfering in an investigation(retaliatory after the federal lawsuit was filed on the police).
All he was doing was standing and filming(a journalist)
The Judge has on 3 occasions(reset), not even know what the charges are. This time too.
It is the run around, to cost you one way or the other, for fake drummed up charges, because you sued them federally for violating civil rights. 1st, 2nd, 4th & 5th.
Everyone can use the public defender if they can't afford an attorney.
Maybe, Maybe not. I guarantee that line is blurred everyday in poor rural areas and inner city areas. And I wouldn't call having a Public Defender the same as having a lawyer who actually has the time to work on your case.
Most of the time those Public Defenders want their clients to plead out, they don't have time to mount an actual defense, they barely have time to talk to their client in any meaningful way.
Like most systems in America, the law only work in our favor if you have money or a house your willing to leverage.
If you want to plead no contest. They will never fight for your innocence.
Yes they can, but they only fight for serious charges (ie murder, rape, manslaughter, etc.), not for crap like trespassing or misdemeanor shoplifting. There are not enough public defenders for everybody and every crime.

You are better off defending yourself in front of a jury.
