I'm one of those kids that HATED PE. And 40 years of hearing -- you just have to find something you like -- I haven't. And yes I've tried them all. Worked out four or five times a week -- dreading it. Still do.

Team sports -- blech -- individual sports -- blech.

I am someone who can make the most of anything but I can't find any love for physical activity.

At least it's an incentive for the chubby youngsters to lose weight in order that they can actually dodge the ball, whilst presenting less of a target area.

More than likely. Those kids were a lot of laughs during dodgeball but eventually they got slightly better and would sometimes slip and fall down trying to avoid the ball which only yielded more laughter. The hard targets were those squirrely small kids with lightning fast reflexes but everybody got hit eventually. It didn’t hurt that bad if you twisted your body slightly on impact. I mean how hard can a kid really throw a stupid red gym ball? It’s not like major league pitchers out there. Just kids having fun.

Throughout years of playing it, I can't remember anyone getting anything hurt, except maybe their feelings.

What a bunch of rubbish.

All games can be embarrassing for nonathletic kids, and being picked last is never a great experience on the playground.

Dodgeball is a great game, and there is nothing "oppressive or dehumanizing" about it. That is just some made up foolishness to try and justify some quacks degree.
Smaller and weaker kids cannot climb rope, pass the physical fitness tests, come in last in races, etc., etc., etc.

It is all part of life and getting out and competing, breaking a sweat and having some fun playing games. The kids who do not excel in sports might very well be able to compete in other aspects of school life, whether it be spelling bees, debate club, etc.
For the kids not smart enough, they get embarrassed also, just in the classroom. But again it is a windrow into what the adult world has in store, so you adapt, improve, improvise and overcome.

Remember, if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball;
