It has worked for America so far.
America is the Great Melting Pot.
Yet today Xenophobia seems to rule the day.

Melting Pot America
[SIZE=2] For centuries, the US has attracted people in search of a share of "the American dream" from all corners of the world.
In fact, US history is one of immigration.
In 1620, about 100 English colonists, so-called "Mayflower Pilgrims" left for America seeking religious freedom.
They landed near Plymouth, Massachusetts, marking an early successful European migration to North America, which had been inhabited by Amerindian people for more than 16,000 years.
The immigration flow to the US first accelerated after the French Revolution, and during the 19th century, population pressure, fragmentation of land in rural Europe and famines drove millions of Europeans to the New World.
Throughout the 19th and 20th Centuries, American ports teemed with German, Chinese, Irish, Italian, and Polish immigrants.
Until 1882, the US government practiced an open door immigration policy, but at the end of the century, it began trying to control immigration by excluding prostitutes, criminals, alcoholics, and Chinese, among others, from coming to the country.

Quote:
THE tired, poor, huddled masses who arrive on America's shores yearning to breathe free actually bring talent, youth and global connections. Some create jobs; others do the work most natives shun. And they prosper. Just look at German-Americans, the country’s single-largest ethnic group, who have assimilated so thoroughly that their neighbours now barely notice them.
America is built on immigration. Yet the country’s immigration system is a mess. Instead of fixing it, Congress seems poised to make things worse. Far too many lawmakers are trying to build ever-higher fences to keep foreigners out.

Arlandria is made up of two and three story garden apartments and row houses. Parker-Grey is row houses with some public housing. West End Alexandria (Condo Canyon) is largely high-rise apartments with a diverse population but is hardly a ghetto. Old Town is overpriced and mostly white but is a small section of the city. Overall a nice little city with a diverse population that gets along pretty well. You should visit it sometime just to see how wrong you are.
