China has been over-populated for many centuries (yes, there is space, but 1.5 BILLION people in about the same size of the USA).....

Russian space is largely Siberia - frozen north and tundra. It is not easy to settle or live in these places. Besides, instead of stealing 60% of the resources (like here, UK), the oligarchs there steal 80-90% of them...and they curtail basic freedoms - even of journalism. You know, like Trump wants to do!

If Russia was further South and had a Constitution which was 100's of year old...based on French and England and Enlightenment Values, well....I'd say people would go there.

Note - in the USA and most other places, the population centers are on the coast or on great waterways. Russia lacks this to the same degree unless you want to live in the really cold and undeveloped Pacific coast.

If that's what you understand as exceptionalism, then I am not surprised. Being capable of bad acts isn't it.

The U.S is just as greedy and selfish as any other nation in the world maybe so we are the BIGGEST supplier of arms in the world. That alone should tell you all about us anyone needs to know.

I've been to China. There are a lot of habitable spaces in China despite their huge population. The problem is a lot of Chinese are not interested working in low wage agriculture work so they flood to big cities to work and to earn higher wages.

It has jack to do with spaces or landmass like the other poster claimed.

Russia. I have no idea because I've never been there.

Oh look. More random America-bashing from C-D’s resident snarky Canadian.

How shocking.

Our real exceptionalism was new forests, mines, waterways and other stuff to exploit for wealth and development. Every tree in Europe was cut down 2,000 years ago. Minerals were mined for longer than that.

Finding a "fresh patch" this large and fertile resulted in a big run.

Sure, it beats Russia by a long shot. Not sure it beats modern Europe. I'm not even sure it beat China (going forward) because they can get stuff done and we cannot any longer. No agreement. Some people want to build 24 lane highways instead of high speed rail.

On the contrary, America is unique.
There is only one nation on Earth with a republican form of government (not to be confused with 'republic'), and where the people are sovereigns. In all other nations, the people are subjects.

The law that is in harmony with the REPUBLICAN FORM is still on the books. The sovereign American, free inhabitant, domiciled upon private property within the boundaries of these united States of America retains his endowment of rights (inalienable and natural) and liberties (natural and personal), and oath bound government is his servant, not his master.

However, due to widespread consent to be governed, most Americans have descended in status to subjects of their sovereign government, burdened with mandatory civic duties that abrogate endowed rights. Technically, this is not the fault of the government, but of the people who didn't bother to read their own laws. Ditto, for enrolling into national socialism (FICA). No law compels participation. No law punishes non-participation.

[See the real law in any county courthouse law library.]

Most Americans are unaware of their lost heritage as sovereigns. It was THE reason why America was unique. It explains why Americans did not bow nor kneel to other monarchs - their social equals. It explains why "plain" Americans could marry foreign nobility without violating the local laws against marriage to commoners. It also means that the vulgar expression, "Kiss my royal American @ss," is legally accurate.
An example of the lost knowledge of our forefathers comes from “The Devil’s Dictionary”, by Ambrose Bierce, a collection of humorous definitions, originally published in a weekly paper starting in 1881.
.................................................. ...............
ALIEN, n. An American sovereign in his probationary state.
- - - - “The Devil’s Dictionary” (1906), by Ambrose Bierce
.................................................. ...............

STILL SKEPTICAL?
". . . at the Revolution, the sovereignty devolved on the [American] people, and they are truly the sovereigns of the country, but they are sovereigns without subjects, and have none to govern but themselves. . ."
- - - Justice John Jay, Chisholm v. Georgia, 2 U.S. 2 Dall. 419 419 (1793)
https://www.law.cornell.edu/supremec...CR_0002_0419_Z

So what did happen to all those wonderful endowed rights to life, liberty, private property, etc, etc?

CONSENT OF THE CITIZENRY
“ Our theory of government and governmental powers is wholly at variance with that urged by appellant herein. The rights of the individual are not derived from governmental agencies, either municipal, state or federal, or even from the Constitution. They exist inherently in every man, by endowment of the Creator, and are merely reaffirmed in the Constitution, and restricted only to the extent that they have been VOLUNTARILY SURRENDERED BY THE CITIZENSHIP to the agencies of government. The people's rights are not derived from the government, but the government's authority comes from the people. The Constitution but states again these rights already existing, and when legislative encroachment by the nation, state, or municipality invade these original and permanent rights, it is the duty of the courts to so declare, and to afford the necessary relief. The fewer restrictions that surround the individual liberties of the citizen, except those for the preservation of the public health, safety, and morals, the more contented the people and the more successful the democracy.”
- - - City of Dallas v Mitchell, 245 S.W. 944
https://casetext.com/case/city-of-dallas-v-mitchell-1
. . .
The rights of the individual / national / non-citizen / inhabitant / non-resident are not derived from government, but are Creator endowed.
But once consent to be governed is granted, via citizenship, that endowment has been surrendered / waived by the citizenry. Why? Because mandatory civic duties abrogate endowed natural rights, natural and personal liberty, absolute ownership of private property, etc, etc.

Fortunately, if fraud was used to get your consent you have the RIGHT to withdraw that consent, and restore your status as a sovereign American national / free inhabitant / non-resident / non-citizen with all Creator endowed rights that governments were instituted to secure (not trick you out of).

P.S. - don't forget to ask how a servant government instituted to secure ENDOWED RIGHTS can impose citizenship (at birth) that abrogates those very endowed rights?
Did someone pull a fast one?
Was the jurisdiction of the "United States" not really the "united States of America" where involuntary servitude was banned?

100% wrong.

Did you miss the whole migrant crisis Europe has dealt with over the last few years?

Mexicans and Central Americans are coming here because we are the closest free democracy with lots of economic opportunity, but we are hardly unique in the world as a country in that regard.

Yep.

It's also framed from the underlying America is always wrong mentality that leftist always seem to tote. I work with a guy and I have to hear America sucks type comments all day long, if he wasn't my supervisor I'd tell him to go F himself and get the hell out of the country. He's a legal immigrant and an ungrateful SOB. Guy makes 6 figures a year and he probably wouldn't have been able to do that in his craphole country he came from.

Objective criticism of America is fine. These far leftist fundamentally dislike America and the culture here.

If you really care about something you would want to improve it, make it better. America is fundamentally a broken nation, politically and culturally. Other developed nations around the world are leaving us further and further behind in almost every metric that matters.
