Russia was not for/against anyone, it was a case of "you interfere in our internal affairs, so we will show you that we can interfere in yours."
Yeah, the US constantly interferes with other governments, but how dare tgey interfere with us.
The truth of the matter is that there has been interference with us by others for a very long time, but it's only really an issue now because Hillary was entitled to the WH.
The Russians mainly interfered in the presidential election to sow division. A further benefit for them with Trump's election was his disdain for all the international treaties and coalitions that Russia sees as a threat. Trump's term as POTUS thus far has been a great gift for Russia on the international front. He is undoing decades of collaboration and trust with America's long time allies.
Russians hated Hillary. Russians have made inroads into a variety of Republican outlets. Some evangelical churches; the NRA; and a variety of Republican lawmakers.
Why? A fondness for authoritarianism? They are pushing far right polices across the globe.
In addition, I think they saw Trump as easy to manipulate - which - he is.
How does "authoritarianism" benefit Russia or any country for that matter, unless the authoritarian happens to be for your country? That can easily go either way far as I know. Besides...
According to the Constitution of Russia, the country is an asymmetric federation and semi-presidential republic, wherein the President is the head of state and the Prime Minister is the head of government. The Russian Federation is fundamentally structured as a multi-party representative democracy, with the federal government composed of three branches:
Legislative: The bicameral Federal Assembly of Russia, made up of the 450-member State Duma and the 170-member Federation Council, adopts federal law, declares war, approves treaties, has the power of the purse and the power of impeachment of the President.
Executive: The President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, can veto legislative bills before they become law, and appoints the Government of Russia (Cabinet) and other officers, who administer and enforce federal laws and policies.
Judiciary: The Constitutional Court, Supreme Court and lower federal courts, whose judges are appointed by the Federation Council on the recommendation of the President, interpret laws and can overturn laws they deem unconstitutional.
The foreign policy is determined by the President and implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
We have a significant portion of the US believing our executive branch was stolen and is not legitimate.
That was the what Putin wanted and what the DNC has delivered.
Some people are way to naive, or slow, to get that.
Though I agree the Christian Right isn't as much to blame as suggested, I don't think what the "significant portion of the US is believing" is too much different from how anti-Obama Americans were feeling when Obama got elected, and then again re-elected. Seems to me your view on this is born of far too anti-Liberal a bias. Yet another explanation with respect to all things Trump that always finds it's way to the fault lying with the Democrats. Sure seems you are "missing the forest for the trees" in any case. Step back and think again and/or give the partisan crap a rest already...

All through the Russian Investigation and since Mueller concluded the investigation it has been made clear the Russians acted in favor of getting Trump elected POTUS. ...
Incorrect. Just because CNN, MSNBC and the NYT told you to think this, doesn't mean it's true.
Hillary would've wanted war, with Trump there's only more sanctions which benefits Russia more than it does us. The devaluation of their ruble means manufacturing will invest in Russia like it did in China. Also a lot of their capital is located offshore and with a president that doesn't play games, the people in control of that money better put it back into Russia, and why wouldn't they, it's worth more in Russia.
I believe you mean the RNC. Putin knew he could get what he wants thru Trump. Trump wants his golden tower so bad in Moscow that he would do anything for it and Putin knows that. Putin wanted him in and the RNC delivered.
Can you elaborate as to what Putin wants from Trump? Seems Trump has given Russia something of a pass unlike our government has done before. A "look the other way" sort of thing. That it?
If so, does this mean Trump is serving as something of a "foreign agent" in favor of Russia's wishes, at least to some extent? How are Trump supporters processing this I wonder...
