So I ask you again. What Free Pass has Trump given to the Russians.

Understood, but what Russian interests had Putin/Russia so obviously intent on having Trump become POTUS rather than Hillary? Not much evidence of Russian interference to undermine Trump after all. Right? Why?

4) They were playing games with our election results, and knew Trump would not go after them, after all, they handed him the election.

From what we have seen so far, Putin knew what he was doing quite well. Trump has been the most pro Russian, weakest President, we have ever had.
Where's Waldo?

1. Hillary wanted them to be more democratic.....and humans rights and all. Putin HATED that.
2. Putin and many others have ties to nationalism through the Orthodox church (even tho Putin is a Communist and Stalinist).
3. General Chaos - he knew that things would be messed up and the USA would suffer.

That's most of it....but as one expert noted and as I say so myself, Putin isn't very smart. In the end, he is doing terrible as our Congress has tightened sanctions and looked closer at Oligarchs etc.

Russians are actually not doing way - stable or down, and China is laughing at them.

So, how smart is Putin?

I don't know why you claim this hasn't been known for many years. In fact, it pre-dates Trump.

Putin is the son of Stalins cook and, unlike former Russian leaders, is bringing Stalin back (to Hero status) in books, films, etc. in Russia.

He does not like the Western Way. He says that very clearly. No bones about it. Russia is a failed state and virtually a criminal enterprise (really it has no Government.....just a bunch of Oligarchs and Putin)....

They WERE headed more in a better direction before Putin and even at the start with Putin (high oil prices = money).....but then Putin started with the clamping down and the wars and the human rights, etc - and Hillary called him out on it. He was REALLY pissed.....

Not only that, but in general he is anti-USA as he watched while we (under two or three POTUS) sent "consultants" over there and told them how to create modern Western Institutions.

Unfortunately - somewhat like what happened in the South after the Civil War, once we disengaged and left the same old, same old forces (take it all and let the people suffer - authoritarianism) took over in the form of Putin.

It's actually pretty simple. He got a great discount rate in messing up the USA. It's not like he had to go in debt to open the Internet Research Agency and fund a bunch of fake groups, etc.

'"The Kremlin and its proxies now undermine democracies everywhere by enriching elites, bankrolling illiberal populists, building energy dependence, funding networks of friendly non-governmental organizations and media outlets, and empowering fringe elements like paramilitaries," he said."

He was laughing the entire time...I'm sure. Also, I am fairly certain even he didn't think Trump would be elected....so, as mentioned above, this whole thing backfired on his also!. With Trump, no one wins. That's his MO.

Waldo is, as usual, peddling alternative history and current events. The pushing of oil/gas, the funding of "illiberal populists" (authoritarians, nationalists) and "fringe elements" are - in this case - all Right Wing or what we call "new alt-right".

Stupid is to ignore all the facts...

The dossier comprises 17 memos and was authored by Christopher Steele, a former head of the Russia Desk for British intelligence (MI6), for the private investigative firm Fusion GPS. The report alleged that Trump campaign members and Russian operatives conspired to interfere in the election to benefit Trump. It also alleged that Russia sought to damage Hillary Clinton's candidacy, including sharing negative information about Clinton with the Trump campaign. The dossier was published in full by BuzzFeed on January 10, 2017. Several mainstream media outlets criticized BuzzFeed's decision to release it without verifying its allegations, while others defended its release.

In October 2015, Fusion GPS was contracted by conservative political website The Washington Free Beacon to provide general opposition research on Trump and other Republican presidential candidates. In April 2016, attorneys for Hillary Clinton's campaign and the DNC separately hired Fusion GPS to investigate Trump, while The Free Beacon stopped its backing in May of 2016. In June 2016, Fusion GPS subcontracted Steele's firm to compile the dossier. Clinton campaign officials were reportedly unaware that Fusion GPS had subcontracted Steele, and he was not told that the Clinton campaign was the recipient of his research. Following Trump's election as president, funding from Clinton and the DNC ceased, but Steele continued his research and was reportedly paid directly by Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn R. Simpson. While compiling the dossier, Steele passed information to both British and American intelligence services.

Of course we'll all make of these facts what we will, but ignoring any of them is a sure sign of confirmation bias and that's what tends to be stupid.

Doesn't exactly explain the answer to the question starting this thread anyway, though it does seem another effort to keep head in sand regarding Russia's preference for Trump...
