All through the Russian Investigation and since Mueller concluded the investigation it has been made clear the Russians acted in favor of getting Trump elected POTUS. There doesn't even seem to be any question or consternation about that goal for Putin and/or the Russian government. Perhaps a dumb question, but I haven't been able to find WHY it is that Russia should favor Trump for POTUS.

Any of the C-D foreign policy experts have an explanation?

Seriously, I'm not really interested in the obvious anti-Trump insults this question invites. I've searched for the REAL answer, and I can't seem to find a good one despite the overwhelming well documented evidence that the Russians acted on Trump's behalf and may do so again. Why?

The Russians are only wanting to cause internal division in the US, and liberals have bent over backwards to ensure they succeed.

Russians benefit from a world where the US has less capital on the global stage. So far Trump has been very successful at accomplishing that.

Russians hated Hillary. Russians have made inroads into a variety of Republican outlets. Some evangelical churches; the NRA; and a variety of Republican lawmakers.

Why? A fondness for authoritarianism? They are pushing far right polices across the globe.

In addition, I think they saw Trump as easy to manipulate - which - he is.

Actually that is the fault of the Christian Right. A majority of Americans support same-sex marriage, support Roe v Wade, support legal marijuana, support separation of church and state, are against a war in Iran, etc. The Christian Right is currently trying to force the entire country at gunpoint back to the 1950s.

Lol.

So much fake propaganda in a single post.

Now, let's be serious for a moment.

We have a significant portion of the US believing our executive branch was stolen and is not legitimate.

That was the what Putin wanted and what the DNC has delivered.

Some people are way to naive, or slow, to get that.

Russia was not for/against anyone, it was a case of "you interfere in our internal affairs, so we will show you that we can interfere in yours."

I believe you mean the RNC. Putin knew he could get what he wants thru Trump. Trump wants his golden tower so bad in Moscow that he would do anything for it and Putin knows that. Putin wanted him in and the RNC delivered.

Could it be some of that division is because Trump seems to lean favorably toward Russia and vice versa? Like we've never seen any POTUS before? In ways we've never seen before? If you are right, then the Russians got it right, because no other POTUS would play into their hands like Trump has. You were expecting the liberals to find this acceptable when all non-partisan precedence would clearly indicate otherwise? Conservatives too? Most certainly including conservatives who have always been the more hawkish staunch anti-Russian?

Are you really making sense...?

I really have to question the degree to which the U.S. has had diminished "capital on the global stage" as a result of our internal differences, until Trump came along...
