Is Trump right again when he says countries should protect their own oil tankers ?

Seems reasonable !!! Doesn't it ?

Trump Says Countries Should Protect Their Own Oil Tankers
https://www.theepochtimes.com/trump-...s_2975975.html

President Donald Trump said on June 24 that foreign countries should protect their own oil tankers in the Middle East, suggesting that other countries have been relying too heavily on the United States to ensure the safe passage of their oil around the world without giving back.

I voted yes but it is not cheap to protect a ship from modern weapons of war that Iran is using. We are not talking about some Somali pirates in a small boat.

I agree that America should not be the worlds police. Where is the UN ? Why aren't they denouncing the attacks and sending aid to protect the ships?

This could ramp up quickly.

I feel that more people would take notice of this if a ship should be attacked and cracked in half dumping its load into the environment. Of course we all know that Trump will be blamed.

IMO, any business that leaves the borders of their own country needs to responsible for their own property and personnel.

The other countries expect the US to police every nook and cranny.

If Trump said that it just another stupid Trump statement again. Oil tankers and ships are registered in different nations among them Panama and Liberia. Furthermore determining who owns a ship can in itself be a byzantine maze. These ships carry our goods and commodities to our shores. Under Trump's incredibly stupid comment those nations would be responsible for those ships' defenses.

The question is one of open sea lanes and not defenses of any particular ship. Trump is a moron.

They can do whatever they want. No one told US to protect anything. Trump is the world police because he chooses to be, even thought he lied about it during his campaign.

Besides, Trumps comment drips with ignorance, because he seems to think each country uses their own ships to bring oil to their country.

So you think the American taxpayer should pay for protecting the world's shipping? That only AMerican lives should be put on the line to do so? That we should be the world's "policeman" and no other country should do a thing?

Trump is wrong. Maybe shippers should pay for security for their cargoes (and they do) but nations, no. Trump is an idiot who understands nothing about international shipping.
