According to commissioner Adam Silver, the NBA is continuing to move away from the use of the term "owner" to describe those with controlling interest of teams in favor of the terms "Governor of the team" ... "owner" can be viewed as racially insensitive in a league where the vast majority of players are African-American and the majority of owners are Caucasian.
Is Adam Silver this ignorant of history??? The first 'governors' in America were appointed by the King of England, and tasked with upholding the laws, including those regarding slavery and the slave trade. Shouldn't 'governor' be just as racist as 'owner?'

Is this going to be the recommended practice for all businesses, or just the NBA?

SMH....

Governor was the term used by Colonial Powers like England, France, and Spain when they claimed territories, enslaved, and exploited the native population, and then imported African slaves. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Leave it to a White, Jewish, bald guy.

And Canada, Australia, New Zealand use the term governor for Governor General as representative of the King/Queen of United Kingdom.

They own the team, not the players. What a dope.

You’d have to have an incredibly low IQ to be be offended by the word ‘owner’.

This sort of thing obfuscates discussion and tends to stifle honest & open speech. It's political correctness, and it affects all of us.

For once, the right has a point: we have gone overboard with claims of racism.

The NHL calls their owner meets the board of governors meeting. Other countries use governor for owner as well. What is the big deal here?

Yes, very true. The bad old colonial powers frequently used the term 'Governor General' for the person running subjugated colonies, often of non-whites. France used it w/ colonies in Africa. If 'owner' is racist, how is 'governor' not?
