Trump tried to push this off onto Ivanka. Ivanka and Marco Rubio tried to cook up a scheme in which new parents could get up to 6 weeks paid maternity leave (I think - could have been longer than 6 weeks). The kicker was the new parents would have to take that money out of their social security account.

Thankfully this idea faded away quickly.

Meanwhile in France,

"Depending on the situation, maternity leave is allowed for 16 weeks if this is the first or the second child, 26 weeks for the third one, 34 weeks for twins and 46 weeks for triplets or more. In the case of premature births, the returning to work date does not change, and the maternity leave will still be based on the official due date."

These days, parents want a handout for everything.
Free maternity pay.
Free childcare.
Free pre-K programs.
Free college.
Free breakfast, lunch (and, at the rate we're going), free dinners at public schools.
Their child tax credits. Let's not forget those...
(I'm sure I missed something here that's "free")
The model to keep subsidizing people for having children that they cannot provide for unless they have government assistance of some sort is simply unsustainable, while our veterans wait for the healthcare they've earned, and our elderly are relegated to spend the remainder of their lives in substandard nursing facilities. Unconscionable.

He already made child care more affordable.

What more do you want? A kiss from Trump?
No he didn't. A $3000 tax credit doesn't begin to cover the cost of childcare! Doesn't trump have a clue?

The total expenses that you may use to calculate the credit may not be more than $3,000 (for one qualifying individual) or $6,000 (for two or more qualifying individuals).

Definitely, YES, American workers need more paid time off, like many other countries give their workers.

Its no wonder why if you ask 10 Americans the simple question, "what do you do", 9 out of 10 will start describing their jobs! lol

Just curious, are you "pro-life?"

Yes a new mom needs time off to heal. 6 weeks isn’t enough time.

Fine. Let her use FMLA. That’s what it’s for.

Politicians running for election say a lot of things. Trump is no exception.

There were elements of childcare in the proposed 2020 budget. It included taking funds out of employee pensions to fund 6 weeks childcare leave. Most workers do not have pensions. Those that do typically have a
“maternity leave” benefit.

Workers with Pensions:

Public Sector- 78%

Unionized- 67%

Non Unionized- 13%

Still waiting for Trump’s better healthcare at a fraction of the cost. Trump did not mention healthcare in his inaugural address. Trumpcare 1 and 2 was not better healthcare. Nor was it cheaper healthcare. Neither had enough support within party to pass.

Still waiting for the big fat tax cut for the middle class that was going to be approved by Congress before the 2018 midterms. Too bad his Admin and Congress had no idea what he was talking about.

Trump says a lot of things.

Should new mother be guaranteed 6 weeks of paid maternity leave?

Sounds good to me.

I'll get you all the names and addresses of the employers of the women who will be going on this maternity leave in the next year, and you can start sending them checks to pay for it.

Hey, thanks! This is very generous of you.
