A good case for not hiring children bearing age women.
My nephew and his wife put their older daughter through a near-Ivy League quality university. They used most of their savings and dipped into their 401K to do so. She's a very bright young woman and earned a double STEM degree, then completed her MS and gained her PE. She was snapped up by a corporation who put her on the fast track; got a major promotion and transfer within three years. She married four years ago, almost immediately became pregnant, didn't return to work after maternity leave was up, is now pregnant a second time, and says she has no intentions to work outside the home again.
All told, she had the use of classrooms and professors, 250K paid for her BS and MS, PE tutoring costs, and the corporation's time, training, and investment in her. Six years of college and only three years of work. Her "choice," yes -- but the ROI seems pretty poor.
Now my nephew's younger daughter is ready to enter college ...
Leave...yes. Paid leave, in most cases....no. As an employer I can tell you that all it does is pass on additional costs to the consumer/end user. If you are complaining about tariffs, you should also be complaining about paid leave!
If the U.S. had some politicians elected who can reign in the budget and reform taxes U.S. can provide this. Take the burden away from employers. Then employers can opt if they want to offer supplemental leave.
Between our work benefit and state law here, a new mother gets 12weeks of paid leave, and so does a new father.
They passed it in our State as well. Think will take effect in 2 year's.
Bit confused on the policy in our State. I an eligible for intermittent FLMA through out the year. Not sure if a max anount of weeks. To activate it have to use 2 weeks of PTO.
For my Wife not sure how it works with her work. Think she has 6 weeks of FLMA paid by her employer, but not sure if she has to use all her PTO before it goes into effect.
Steeamlining it nationwide with 6 and 3 month's paid by the Government be easier. Cap it at $1,000 a week.
Donald Trump rolled out a plan during his campaign promising to make child care more affordable, guaranteeing new mothers six weeks of paid maternity leave and suggesting new incentives for employees to provide their workers childcare.
Why do I have to pay for other people’s life choices? Why does a company have to pay for the same thing? Ridiculous.
Companies pay to attract and keep valuable employees. My daughter and SIL are about to have their first child. Both of them get 16 weeks of paid vacation from their employers. They both work in highly skilled jobs and competition for employees is stiff. Companies offer paid maternity and paternity leave as part of the benefits package to compete for employees. Just like they offer great health coverage and generous vacation time.

That’s up to the company. But a law forcing a company? Wrong.
