I said some of laws ours are based on the Ten Commandments and yes some of them are values that a civilized society should live by. You do know what "some" means, don't you?

Except when Republicans talk about "Christian values," that's not what they are talking about. They are talking about laws that dictate who can love who, what women can do with their bodies, that force public school students to learn pseudoscience and Bible stories and to pray on the taxpayer's dime, making felons and incarcerating people for possessing a natural plant because for some reason Jesus hates cannabis, etc, etc, etc. They are talking about destructive environmental policy and foreign policy based in an apocalyptic fantasy as opposed to reality. That's the "Christian values" that Republicans are shoving down the throats of the entire country.

I agree that the Republican party is imperfect and shouldn't get involved with what happens inside a woman's womb. However... I can't afford the Democrats wanting to have open borders and increase government handouts to the slackers of the world and their children.

ALL Republicans??????

Just. No.

I can't believe this! Replace "Christian" with anything else- straights, gays, trans, Jews, democrats and this thread would have imploded already. Can't judge anyone except those terrible Christian beliefs!

What if I changed your post- "They force our public school kids, jamming down their throats, to learn about homosexuality! They are forcing our kids to learn about nonsense climate change!" Now that wouldn't be allowed, right?

Can you name specifically which are needed in ADDITION to the Golden Rule? That is, if you are claiming it is something new and special when......it existed LONG before that religion.

"The idea dates at least to the early Confucian times (551–479 BC) according to Rushworth Kidder, who identifies that this concept appears prominently in Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Taoism, Zoroastrianism, and "the rest of the world's major religions". The concept of the Rule is codified in the Code of Hammurabi stele and tablets, 1754-1790 BC. 143 leaders encompassing the world's major faiths endorsed the Golden Rule as part of the 1993 "Declaration Toward a Global Ethic"...

Using this "logic", if I reworded a few of the commandments or laid out some examples of the Golden Rule, I could become worshiped for Centuries and found nations!

Some people claim that when they hear "well, to be honest with you...." that means they weren't being that way the rest of the time!

And so it is with anyone who needs to claim their "values" with some brand name. You don't need to know the religious values of Ghandi or the Dalai Lama to know they are good human beings. AND, if they walked around proclaiming their greatness like many here do....well, it's time to wonder.

It would be like some ugly dude coming up to a woman and saying "Don't you know I am the best looking dude in the school?".

Truth is, if he was he surely wouldn't have to say it!

They may not change but there are less and less of them so eventually they will be gone.

They currently run the USA though. Even though the overall population is becoming more secular, the religious right is the strongest it's been since the 1980s. They are the dominant cultural and political force in 2019 and that's likely to remain the case through at least 2025.
