There is a profound irony and maybe hypocrisy about Disney not wanting their characters associated with death. Death has been a common thing in many Disney movies and some Disney movies have had zombies!
I think it has less to do with the reason Disney gave, and more to do with copyright reasons.
I think Disney didn't want to outright come out and say, sorry but our characters are intellectual properties and all that, because that would be a bit insensitive, so they softened it with the mumbo jumbo about not wanting their characters associated that way.
I can see their point as what's to stop people from all over the world doing the same, but at the same time, exceptions can be made I'm sure. They did offer some consolation prize though.
While my breaks for the family, I think I understand Disney's real reason. Once you say yes to 1 you open the floodgates. Spiderman is a copyright property.
The Corporation I retired from did millions in charity every year. They also said no to thousands of requests. The one I remember most was the request to donate product for a fundraiser for a child dying of cancer.
The reason was that the fund raiser was being held at a local Rod and Gun club. The company had a strict 0 gun support policy. They declined to support the event, because of where it was held. Many of us were outraged. This was the grandchild of a co-worker.......
Many of us went out and bought our competitor's product and used it instead. The company later explained it couldn't support the event because if they did they wouldn't be able to decline other events, less honorable because they already accepted this one. It's all about the lawyers lurking in the background looking to sue.
I wish Disney had granted the wish. The child loved Spiderman.
