All athletes should be amateurs and play for honor and glory, not for money. That would solve this debate very nicely.

I think expecting women to get paid the same as men is like expecting your Triple-A local baseball players to get paid the same as 'the bigs'. They both win games, they both sell out stadiums, but there are not many other similarities.

Another point is that the quality of play is different. It gets back to "equal pay for equal work". It may be unpopular to say, but the men play at a higher level. Imagine this: What there was no men's and no women's team, just a "national team", where anyone could try out, and only the best players would be picked. Wouldn't matter if you are male, female, trans, or other. If you were the best, you got the job. How much would women be paid in that scenario?

Again, I will close out by saying I am 100% for equal pay for equal work, and I am not one to go around crying about PC this and PC that. I am not one to exclude Trans-Gender from anything, (and I don't care what bathroom someone uses). But in this case, I think the complaints of not getting paid the same as the men is misdirected. To me, it is like saying that there is a gender gap in Rock and Roll because Pat Benatar does not get paid as much as Bono. They've both been around for (approximately) the same amount of time, they both sell out shows, but the reason that Bono gets paid more is because U2 (I am not a fan, BTW), sells more records, fills bigger venues, has higher paying sponsors and in general generates more revenue.

^I guess one could say that it is a societal flaw that men CAN generate more revenue in some cases, but I don't think that applies here.

Would love an intelligent discussion, without being roasted for my opinion. As someone who would LIKE to believe that women should get paid the same in ALL cases, I'm open to respectfully hearing about the flaws in my view. Maybe a good discussion will help me see it differently?

A well written post and I think I agree. I'm a woman, but you've done a good job of illustrating the issue and I've thought the same for years. Although, maybe this is the beginning of change.

I think the men's US soccer team sucks rocks, they are worthless, shed them of all of their assets, sell all their equipment, and just give it all to the women's soccer team.

When you put fannies in the seats you get paid more. My guess is that women's soccer doesn't fill stadiums. It's the same reason why Joe Blow soccer player isn't paid as much as John Doe soccer player.

It’s all about revenue. Pretty simple.

Not every person/athlete/team is the same.

They do more than the men in friendly games. As I previously said, US men's do well in US tournament play (Copa de Oro or Copa America) something which I've said previously the US women's do not have comparable to the men.

The 2019 Women's World Cup exceeded last years Men's World Cup in viewership but the record was in 2015.

The United States' 2-0 victory over Netherlands in Sunday's FIFA Women's World Cup final averaged nearly 15.6 million U.S. viewers on English- and Spanish-language television.
It was the most-viewed match this season, but a decrease from the 2015 final

The match averaged 14.27 million viewers on Fox, according to the network and Nielsen, and peaked at 19.6 million. It was a 22 percent increase over last year's FIFA World Cup men's final between France and Croatia, which averaged 11.44 million.

The women get a larger percentage of the total money made then the men do.

If anyone should be upset, it should be the men who get a smaller slice of the pie.

Even with less success the Men's team brings in more TOTAL REVENUE. Much more. The women's team lawyer cherry picked one stat to push their socialist agenda. They make less money so get paid less.

Soccer as a spectator sport is not popular in general in the U.S.

Even with less success the Men's team brings in more TOTAL REVENUE. Much more. AGREE

The women's team lawyer cherry picked one stat to push their socialist agenda. They make less money so get paid less. DISAGREE. LMAO, IT'S A CAPITALIST AGENDA. THEY WANT TO GET PAID MORE BECAUSE THEY HAVE LEVERAGE RIGHT NOW. I DON'T BLAME THEM, BUT YOUR COMMENT ABOVE IS CORRECT, THEY DON'T BRING IN THE SAME REVENUE AND WILL LIKELY NEVER GET PAID THE SAME AMOUNT. IMO, IT'S JUSTIFIED (THE GAP IS JUSTIFIED.

Soccer as a spectator sport is not popular in general in the U.S. FALSE. IT'S NOT POPULAR IN YOUR CIRCLE MAYBE, BUT IT IS VERY POPULAR. IT'S NOT THE MOST POPULAR SPORT IN THE US WOULD BE A MORE ACCURATE STATEMENT.
