Most of the people who "spin" what the Bible says (whether they're on the Right or Left) don't understand the Bible in the first place.

Jesus was not a political figure, neither a 'capitalist,' nor a 'socialist,' two political ideologies that didn't exist in his day. But he did teach responsibility in handling what has been entrusted to us, and caring for our fellow man. Capitalism isn't greed, and socialism isn't compassion or generosity.

Don't conflate politics and political systems with what Jesus taught. Don't ascribe what some might believe to all of us on the "right side of the Isle." Those who say Jesus was a capitalist are just as wrong as those who say Jesus was a socialist.
Next we'll all be talking about Moses (who didn't exist).....

Old stories are amazing because we (and translators, and the 100 generations in-between) can make them into anything we want. That's the whole idea.

Note - to those just catching up, it's virtually impossible for Moses to have existed as the Pyramids were built LONG before any Jews existed, there is zero evidence of any Jews living or dying in that area as well as many other proofs. The Pyramids were built by Egyptians. This is agreed to by the scholars at even Hebrew University in Israel.

Friends of mine who are more "devout" than I am believe the same, but they told me "so what, it's the stories that count".

I didn't want to argue with them but had to think "I don't make up stories that cast horrible aspersions on other people for my own benefit (plaques, slavers, etc.)..."

I think we can all be certain that Jesus would weep if he saw the 100's of square miles of plastic litter in his creation (the oceans) or the amounts of pollutants we create which cause us (our kids) and the natural world to suffer. That would make him a strict environmentalist.

It's simple enough. The "meek" and the "weak" have been left to live in the shadows of the oil refineries and the like.

Right Wingers Now Claim Jesus Was A Free Market Capitalist

'Capitalism' as such didn't really exist in those days. Free markets, yes, but not capitalism as we know it today. I think one would have to look at the 19th century for the beginnings of modern capitalism.

It's hard to square Jesus' teachings of sharing and caring with the philosophy and financial mechanisms of pure capitalism.
