You need to turn off the right wing media. You have bought into the propaganda they spew on a daily basis. They want to keep you angry and to hate the left. They are good at grabbing the attention of the naive and ignorant.

Specious argument. I suspect that the majority of wing-nut and libertarian posters here would have been in the Democrat or Southern Democratic parties in the early 19th century as its beliefs line up more with the stuff they write.

Post-Civil war, most right wing posters here would probably hate the Republican party since it took away the rights of the states and strengthened the Federal government. So again, if you came of age in the last half of the 19th century and you had conservative ideals, you probably would be a Democrat.

Early 20th century was when women got the vote and Federal income tax became law through the 16th Amendment, and yes, Republicans voted for the 16th, although it was more widely supported by Democrats.

FDR I will proudly say was a Democrat. He got us through WW II and he left us with Social Security which 99% of Americans rely upon for retirement.

The rest you are right about. It was indeed Kennedy who go us into Vietnam. But Trick-Dick Nixon, bless his heart, did leave us with the EPA, which I will forgive his many crimes against Americans for. And oh yeah, Roe v. Wade happened while on a Republican's watch. So you guys own it.

Aaaaand the paranoia award of the year goes to.............THIS THREAD!

On another note, it's been proven on here time and time again that the people who were called "Democrats" back then held right wing views. These days the people who you've listed in your OP are called "Republicans". That's something you can't deny.

Like Ted Roosevelt - a Republican POTUS who was a progressive and therefore the party threw him out and he had to start his own party (Bull Moose).
How many times are you going to continue to repeat this inaccuracy after having been corrected?

TR sought the GOP nomination in 1912, but as Taft was the incumbent and controlled party machinery, Taft defeated TR for the nomination. Only then did TR leave and form his own party. The party never 'threw him out.'

That's the story and I am sticking to it.

You should contact Stanford professor Richard White, and perhaps Oxford University Press, email them your 'proof,' and tell them how wrong they are so that they can correct the book. (see quote from book in post #1).
19th century 'liberals' (who led the fight against slavery) would be properly termed 'conservatives' today.
