Students want chance to defend themselves
Michael Flitcraft, a 23-year-old sophomore at the University of Cincinnati, has become a leading advocate for college students to carry weapons on campus. He's an organizer for Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, a grass-roots organization that was formed after last year's Virginia Tech massacre that left 32 college students and professors dead.

Good luck with that, I say. At Princeton University, their security force (I forget exactly what they call them) has approximately 25 people on it that were trained and certified by the state police. They have petitioned the university to allow them to carry guns. The university doesn't want this because it might make them "unapproachable" to students who want to ask for help (like, with directions) LOL.

That's definitely not a good idea.
The chance of something ever like that of happening again, is relatively low. If you put into consideration the amount of students who graduate every year from colleges around the US. It was an unfortunate effect. As for carrying guns to "protect" yourself from that ever happening again is just not logical. Having guns around heightens the chance of violence. And, besides. If a crazy lunatic comes running into your dorm and shoots your roommate, is everyone on that floor going to have a shoot-out with the lunatic? For crying out, how many kids actually know how to fire a gun?

Defending yourself? What a ridiculous and illogical idea. The mere fact that a gun, a knife, or a pointed stick is around heightens the chances of violence.

I'm split on this one. On the one hand, I can understand the fear that must exist on college campuses after all the episodes of violence. But on the other hand, how many unstable people could be carrying and shoot someone that makes them mad. It's just a hard thing to decide. It would scare me to think of my son being at school and not being able to defend himself but it would also scare me if everyone was toting a gun around to. I'll be curious to see what others say on this.

I agree with their right to carry a fire arm, however its a privately run college, and colleges can set rules on if they allow, or dont allow fire arms on their privately owned property.
The interesting part where this might become an issue, is if the colleges accepts federal aid, (and I believe all of them do), then its no longer "private", and thereby new rules would apply.

You said that jokingly right? You do realise that numerous individuals that shot at kids in schools, did so because they admitted they knew that there would be no one there to defend them.

You can walk out onto the streets and shoot up a crowd, a defenseless crowd.
You can go to the movie theaters and block the door and shoot up everyone.
You don't need to be in a school to shoot defenseless people up.

If that was true why hasn't there been a great Theme Park Massacre? No one at Disney has a gun...I'll just go through there and shoot everyone because they'll be defenseless.
