Odd that common sense here isn't to leave someone alone simply standing on a sidewalk.

The officer recognized Garner as someone who had been arrested in the past for selling loose cigarette's on the street corner (horrors).

They were called over a fight but when they got there the two who had been fighting had fled. With his adrenaline all pumping the officer had to go after someone so he went after Garner. He told him to show him what was in his pockets. Garner was under NO obligation to do so and said so. It was a violation of his civil rights for the officer to further push the matter. He did anyway.

Remove race of victim from the discussion. Remove race of the agent of tyranny from this discussion. Remove prior record (which has nothing to do with how a suspect should be treated pursuant to their civil liberties) from the discussion. Then focus in like a laser on two points:

1) Garner's "crime" was avoiding a tax by selling loose cigarettes on the street. And by "avoid tax" we are talking about the NY sin tax on cigarettes, which per cigarette is 29 cents. For this, Garner was killed. This was the "crime" he was committing when his executioner ended his life.

2) The agents of tyranny have all agreed that avoiding a tax measured in cents is punishable by execution. We know this because they executed someone for avoiding a tax that is measured in cents, and that is the end of the matter, so sayeth the tyrants in charge. By not punishing the agent of tyranny who carried out the execution, they implicitly sanction said execution. End result - you shall render unto Caesar, or you shall be killed. If you doubt that, ask Eric Garner...oh wait....

Leviathan should thank the heavens that the masses are so braindead on free stuff opiates, because in prior times and different cultures, a single act of tyranny like the execution of Eric Garner would spark actual revolts, overthrows, coups, etc. Indeed, agents of tyranny using force against those who avoided taxation, and the subsequent revolt against those agents of tyranny is the basis for our freaking nation. Clearly, we have lost a lot of our 18th century sass since that whole American Revolution thing.

Selling loose cigs that have already been taxed is a crime? Dude was clearly dying, and they subdued him to death. This was a tragedy, and will likely lead to another tragedy soon, since any protestors/rioters only need an excuse to inflict damage and more violence.

I agree with a lot of these.

Plus, New York City’s ludicrous sales tax on cigarettes has done nothing more than to create a lucrative black-market for the trade in untaxed cigarettes. The city should seriously consider curtailing it or even ending it regardless of the loss in revenue that will occur.

He didn't have any cigarettes on him when he was killed. He was being accused of doing this.

Cops bungled this collar. Should have been able cuff and stuff the guy without killing him. And the cop doing the choke hold. All tatted up like an outlaw biker. Cops should present a neat and professional appearance. Not look like psycho thugs. What the hell is going on in New York?

Even worse...the agents of tyranny heard a rumor that Garner was not rendering unto Caesar, and killed him. So just being accused of not paying Paulie his tribute gets you whacked.

And people have the audacity to argue with me when I posit that taxation is robbery backed with the threat/implementation of force/violence. It baffles the mind.

Cuff and stuff the guy for what? Standing on a street corner while black? That was basically his only crime. But it's a crime punishable by death according to the police and prosecutors. And it isn't only New York. It's pretty much an epidemic across the country. This is what BLM is all about.

Shame. This country has serious problems with charging police officers for murder. Even with video evidence and a chokehold that was banned.

All over some damn loose cigarettes.

Why was he on the streets to begin with?
Reportedly, most charges were for selling loose cigarettes on the street without a license and he was allegedly doing so once again on the day he died, despite no cigarettes were found.

It is clear Garner resisted arrest. It is clear the officer used force, despite that Garner was physically incapable of running. It is clear Garner repeatedly said he could not breathe. The officer denied using a chokehold. The Medical Examiner supported by the autopsy, concluded a chokehold had been used.

The officer did not intend to kill him and his defense argued that Garner’s own health problems ( heart disease, diabetes, severe asthma, obesity, and sleep apnea) caused his death. Seems reasonable the chokehold triggered cardiac arrest.

The city previously settled out of court with the family for $5.9 million.

Both Obama and Bush 2 had previously spoken out about Garner’s death.

Had Garner not resisted he might be alive, today.

Had the officer not used a chokehold - excessive force, Garner might be alive, today.
