Bush set the retirement date. Was well beyond the expected lifespan of the shuttles anyway.

Kids these days are a bunch of SJW snowflakes. In my day, we had to walk uphill through snow to get to get to Woodstock.

No surprise here. This is what's happening with everything in todays "modern" world. The biggest business today is gaming and being a socialite on the internet. Both are complete nonsense.

The deactivation of the program started in 2004 - different administration. In fact, under president Obama, two Shuttle flights were added to the manifest.

Again, that work should have been started much earlier. GWB presented president Obama with a Shuttle program in the process of dismantlement and a "replacement" - Constellation - that was a complete boondoggle of delays and cost overruns, even by NASA standards. Luckily a couple of eccentric billionaires decided to run space launches as a business, not a cost-plus government program.

Yet they make far more money than the average call center or factory worker in rural America. Would you at least agree with that?

However the space race is all but history to today's kids so why should they take an interest in it? We haven't been to the moon in decades and sending a man to Mars is kind of almost seen as a joke.
my kid is five and he wants to be an astronaut. and a scientist. and a basketball player.

of course he doesn't have a clue what a youtuber is, either.

It's just the entertainment industry evolving. Many are happier watching YouTube drama than scripted tv shows or blockbuster movies. I appreciate that folks can get a following that way without going through the Hollywood filter. Not to mention the hustle of putting out new content on an often daily basis.

My kid wants to be a veterinarian. And a YouTuber. You can make a good living at it.

Well... that's a bit like pointing to Charlize Theron and saying that actors make a ton of money. Because most make so little from acting, they need another job to eat. Same with youtubers.

That being said, some of them do provide an OK product. If you need a step-by-step guide to fix a recalcitrant washing machine? Youtube. Cooking, home repairs, automotive - it's pretty awesome.
