Silicon Valley says it loves diversity, but the industry only wants workers from one country — and it’s not America.
An estimated 71 percent of the workforce in Silicon Valley is foreign-born. The majority are Indian nationals; nearly 70 percent of those who come on H-1B visas — a favorite of Big Tech — hail from India. Additionally, many tech firms have a sizable presence in India itself.
And the reason tech giants love Indian-born workers? They tend to work for far less than American workers.

As someone who works in tech in Silicon Valley, I’m telling you that this statement is not correct. People from india are offered just as much as US citizens. Moreover, the US has such a shortage of engineers that without Indians and Asians coming over, the US would not currently be to top country for tech development.

Oh...remember Steve Jobs approving that the Chinese Government could ORDER all the Apple workers to show up on the weekend and fix the IPHONE. Jobs said it was the reason that Apple would NOT move manufacturing back to the US. NOPE, he wanted a COMMUNIST government that could control the workers to assure that Jobs got his fix to the IPHONE in time.
Really folks.....CORPORATE TECH in AMERICA is EVIL.
Time to face up to it as a country and deal with it.
Oh...for you Silicon Valley types....yeah, Hitler and Mussolini got the trains to run on time. But at least there was still some privacy in Nazi Germany unlike the USA Today with Facebook and Google.

I've been on the hiring side of things at several tech companies. Salary wasn't any different for someone here on a visa. A truly outsourced position working for a 3rd party company in India is cheaper, sure. But we preferred citizens over visa workers because the whole visa sponsorship thing can be a real headache.
There are not enough people in the domestic workforce interested in Computer Science. Not that I'm complaining, keeps my salary high.

The Indian population is 1.3 billion, students that graduate from any of the ITT universities are among the most capable in the world. Just look at the difficulty of JEE exams vs. the SAT or ACT, there is no comparison. Sure, there are some poor Indian software engineers, but there are so many brilliant ones that the US needs in order to keep growing the economy.

Plenty of Americans without CS degrees can code as well. Just because you're a loser in India if you don't study engineering doesn't mean we should import them. Many of them are terrible engineers.
