Shame on them.
You know those 'fiscal conservatives.'

They'll vote for anyone giving them free stuff. And free money is even better!

You've been brainwashed by Fox. There is no massive walk away movement from the Democratic Party. While both parties have lost voters to independents, there are still more Democrats than Republicans and more Democrats+ D leaning Independents than Republicans and R leaning Independents. The only generation of living Americans that has a decided Republican edge are those (Silents) that are closest to the grave.

Right, and like I said, the older the current generations get the more they'll lean R, too.

Believe it or not, also, there are tons of non-whites who vote Republican. Like maybe the immigrants who came here legally, for example? Getting US Citizenship the legal way is a long, arduous process. I'm sure it's a slap in the face to them to watch the dems condone illegal immigration.

Yup, that's the issue that turned my parents from reliable Democrat voters to reliable Republican voters.

With us being called the "Grand Old Party", we could die out first.

First of all, the most Republican living generations were always predominantly Republican. While individuals can and do radically shift their political beliefs as they age, the political identities of generations are set in early adulthood. The Silents were Republican, the early Boomers (JFK and Civil Rights) were more Democratic. Later Boomers (Carter, Reagan) were more Republican. The early Gen Xers were Republican, but the younger ones came of Age on the Clinton years and are more Democratic). The Millennials were different in that from beginning to end, as they reached adulthood they leaned heavily Democratic.

Regarding immigration, the demographic cake for the next 30+ years is baked. If there were no immigration at all for the next 30 years, we would still become a minority majority nation because the white population is aging out, while minorities, especially Hispanics are still in prime childbearing years. The question for the political parties is how to deal with that reality. As for the Democrats, they have unabashedly supported the immigrant populations. That’s the long term smart political play, because that’s where the growth potential is. Just after losing the 2012 election, the Republican Establishment commissioned an “autopsy report” that recommended that the GOP go all in at trying to expand their base, including supporting a path to citizenship for the illegal aliens living here. The base answered with a big “HELL NO” and nominated and then elected Donald Trump. But the math is still the same. Every four years, for the last 20 years, the percentage of registered voters that are non-college whites decreases on average by 2%. It was 46% in 2016 and is projected at 44% for 2020. The Trump model was a path to short term success but long term disaster.

If you build your party on appealing to the primarily older, primarily non-college voters who are the angriest about demographic change, which is now irreversible, how do you simultaneously appeal to enough of those same persons of color or white college graduates who are repulsed by the increasingly strident dog whistle politics needed to scare those blue collars to the polls? Over the long term, you probably can’t. That’s why the establishment wanted to broaden the base so desperately back in 2012.

Exactly. I, for one, could not imagine working so hard to obey the law and do all of the neccesary things to emigrate here legally just to watch the dems embrace illegal immigration.

What about California, where citizens are working to pay taxes to cover illegals' healthcare? What a brilliant governor they have.

California is so elitist but what they don't realize is they are the joke of the USA, the laughing stock.

Imagine working, being taxed to give free healthcare to illegals while being FINED for not paying for an outrageous Obamacare premium.

Republicans aren't going anywhere, OP needs to lay off the CNN.

You are being very ignorant. You're basically saying that all non-whites vote Democrat. That's simply not true.

The legal immigrants are just as offended by "go back where you came from" as the rest of the country. That is an attack on all immigrants. And most of the targets of Trump's ignorance are from this country anyhow. The people it actually is meant for is immigrants--legal or illegal--Trump does not distinguish.

I was a young liberal and now I make a good living, and it didn't turn me into a nasty republican. Just because you and your friends may have not known what you really believe or who you really are--some of us have held the same core moral values, beliefs and ideals for our entire adult lives. Shock! Your illogical generalization is faulty. Making money doesn't really change who you are, if you know who you are to begin with, and it sure as hell does not turn you into a conservative.
