So people you don't respect are calling something you do respect disrespectful? Is that the gist? Are you so unsure of your feelings or position on this that it matters?

But here's the thing: If a symbol is adopted by a group for purposes other than it is originally meant for, you will have to accept some consequences of continuing to use that symbol. Example: the Nazi swastika--sure it has deeper and older meanings, but it was adopted by the Nazi party as a nationalistic symbol. So, if you use the swastika without context, that is the association that is made by others. The Gadsden Flag has been adopted by the Tea Party and has begun to be used for more & more nationalistic displays. This is unfortunate, but it is not something that we liberals all get together & decide. It is adopted by a group and used to communicate something, and that is how it is viewed (by some).

America and her ideals are much, much bigger than Trump.

That sums it up for me.
LOL, you don't see the words of Trump being the very words we both agree do not represent the flag?

Really?

And look, here's some nazis waving standard American flags. I guess now that flag is racist too. Oh and look behind that nazi flag on the right. One of them is waving a flag of the state of California. lol
Excellent catch. I'm sure Dane_LA will agree that the flag of his precious paradise California is racist.

It probably is racist given the way California has treated Asians and whites.

Is this difficult or something? The California flag represents an existing entity with values that should be pretty clear.

The Gadsden flag - doesn't. We can only surmise the message by looking at who actually uses it.

Plenty of highly questionable episodes in the state's past and probably present. At least we're not celebrating an era of institutionalized racism and calling it our "heritage".

Not a coincidence. Once they start branding everything that existed during that time as racist, the next step will be to call for the end of the Constitution, the Electoral College, the Bill of Rights, and the 2nd Amendment.
