There's something very wrong with this picture and I don't yet know quite what to make of it all.

Trump has been proving convention political wisdom wrong every day for over three years. And during that time there has been the expected relentless calls for him to cave and to conform to long-standing PC edict. He has always known better and thus has branded those calls as the formula for conservative failure that they have always been.

Suddenly, today, he's lost his nerve, his confidence, his independence? Suddenly, today, he caves like every other pathetic empty suit piled on the scrapheap of former leaders who were anything but? Suddenly, today, he must "play ball" and make Paul Ryan proud?

Why?

Trump hates America.
The more basic thing is he is a user Of whatever helps him win, get power, money or stroke his ego.

As long as the 2020 race is about stuff like this and the economy Trump wins in a landslide. Most Americans disagree with the far left ideology of these women and the dems are not going to win on a sympathy vote just because Trump picked on them.

I guess it takes a lot to push some people to admit they have gone to far, this has not been political wisdom the last 3 years with those consistently negative ratings.

Most democrats diagree with her statements, she isn’t running for president. I have never seen a president with a negative rating in a record setting economy so it’s obviously something else, now what could that be

It's no longer an argument that the GOP might tolerate racists, but they don't impact the platform or message. It's no longer an argument that the racists are a marginal slice of the GOP, not worth focusing on.

After watching a Trump rally, with attendees reiterating the racist attack from Trump, it's clear that the racism in the GOP is not a flaw, it's a feature.

Here is where we are: a minority person has a different view of what America should be doing than your traditional Trump-supporting Conservative. The response? "Shut up. YOU don't get a say in how WE run this country." Is that racist enough for you?

But what if you're a minority whose family has been in America for generations? "Shut up. YOU don't get a say in what it means to be AMERICAN. YOU are not one of US." Is that racist enough for you? How is that different than "we don't want your kind here?"

The message from Trump's base and by extension the GOP, by virtue of their silence, is minorities are only allowed in America by the good graces of White people. If minorities don't toe the line, they can GTFO, regardless of how long they've been here. Minorities don't get to tell White people how to run this country.

So at this point, is there any real counter argument against the claim that Trump's entire platform is based on not MAGA, but MAW(hite)A? Nooooope.
America. Love it or leave it. Timeless and succinct.

The quality of people behind that statement never seems to change.

Rick Wilson nailed it.

"Trump understands his Deplorables with an almost anthropological eye; he knows they’re not just looking for validation or jobs or a drained Swamp; they’re looking for permission to be as cruel, grotesque, and vicious as he is."

"He knows they’re addicted now to the way he enables and empowers them to say and do the things they want, regardless of consequence. His brilliant, ****ty showmanship is tuned to their Bubba Belt sensibilities; crude, loud, a vulgarian warrior giving them permission to blow up a society leaving them behind."
