not many guns in japan. yet this psycho managed to kill 33 and injure 36 more.

Quote:
A man screaming “You die!” burst into an animation studio in Kyoto, doused it with a flammable liquid and set it on fire Thursday, killing 33 people in an attack that shocked the country and brought an outpouring of grief from anime fans.

Thirty-six others were injured, some of them critically, in a blaze that sent people scrambling up the stairs toward the roof in a desperate — and futile — attempt to escape what proved to be Japan’s deadliest fire in nearly two decades. Others emerged bleeding, blackened and barefoot.

While I am a big supporter of the 2nd we really should not have to pick out a incident in Japan to show other ways to kill people. If I’m defending my family from an aggressor I prefer having a gun over a match and a can of gasoline.

Like I've said in the past: "If there's a will, there's a way". If someone(s) is hell-bent on killing people, they will do it any way they can. Lots of knife killings going on in Japan these days too. I was actually in Japan and at the same city on the same day the guy ran a bunch of people over with his van and then jumped out and started slashing people to death. Had I not left roughly 20 minutes before the mayhem begun, I would have pretty much witnessed it first hand.

The building didn't have sprinklers or fire extinguishers. The cartoons are completely meaningless in light of the loss of life, but the studio is forever lost after this, because they didn't store physical or digital backups off-site.

After the avoidable Fukushima disaster, the 7-11 ATM heist, and this absolutely horrible and avoidable tragedy, I'm getting the impression that Japan's infrastructure is woefully unprepared for disasters and other emergencies.
