^^^ That's why a minimum wage formula that focuses on: Average rent; average cost of gas; average utilities; income tax; sales tax. States utilize the formula in creating a minimum wage. Then anyone with hourly pay between State minimum wage and up to $2.40 more hourly with dependents will receive $1,152 rebate from the Government for each dependent. Max amount can receive is up to 4 dependents. State's can create a higher minimum wage if they choose to. Raise tipped minimum wage to $5.00 an hour. Also $1,152 rebate applies to those making Federal tip wage. A flat Federal income tax of 30% and only taxing any income made in a year over $30,000. Do away with Federal tax returns.

Minimum wage belongs at the state/city level if anywhere.

$15 in San Francisco is not the same thing as $15 in Dayton, Ohio.

The increase, which would boost pay for some 30 million low-wage workers, is intended as one answer to income inequality. A longshot project of liberal advocates just a few years ago, the $15 minimum is standard practice at some leading U.S. corporations. But passage was assured only after centrist Democrats, reluctant to embrace the party's left flank, won adjustments, including a slower six-year phase-in of the wage. It was just the latest reminder of the sway moderates hold over the party's policy decisions.

Even though the bill's chances in the Republican-controlled Senate are slim, and President Donald Trump is unlikely to sign it into law, the outcome is important because it puts $15 into the campaigns as the new benchmark for debate.

Be interesting to see how this one plays out for companies like Walmart, etc. I’m sure they will be backing Trump.
Then again Trump might be for it I’d be surprised if he wasn’t after all if he did run on the idea of helping the American workers make more money.
Please explain the moral justification for forcing people at gunpoint to pay for goods and services at above fair market rate.

Slavery is a wonderful thing only for the slave owners.

Tupelo min. wage is $7.25

San Fran min. wage is $15.59

Per CNN $1 in Tupelo buys as much as $2.41 in San Fran....

San Fran would need to raise their minimum wage to $17.47 to match the same buying power as minimum wage in Tupelo.

I'm not totally on board for making 15/hr. the minimum wage.

BUT -- just as an anecdote. In the province of Ontario Canada they raised the minimum wage last year and I remember hearing that it was going to kill job growth, businesses, etc.

It really hasn't.

Of course there are some smaller businesses on the cusp of going under and this may have escalated the situation but the trend wasn't significant to impact the economy.

The critics at the time said it would be disastrous...it wasn't.

Ask the one who wrote the article.

I’ve worked retail in some smaller stores like gift shops, you would be surprised how little those goods cost.

If minimum wage is raised to $15 per hour nationwide, then tipping should be dropped as a practice.

Why should waitstaff at a restaurant get a tip if they are already receiving a full-wage of $15 per hour, instead of the $2.34 per hour previously.

With this bill though tipped workers become hourly getting the same $15/hour.
Going from $2.13 to $15.00 will be a big hit to all restaurants that employ tipped workers.

Democrats are good with coming up with excessive regulations and overreach that kill off small business. They want to make it impossible for anyone to start a business.
