A lot of women view the Hijab as a sign of oppression. It's a reminder that those wearing it are someone else's property. In this country, people are certainly free to wear it, that's their business. But, don't freak out when others don't want to try one on.

There's no "double-standard". Spokeswomen/men very commonly have "image" clauses in their agreements - especially so for pageants. This isn't new. When you do something that is deemed to bring unwanted publicity to the organization, you're gone. The same reason they can't pose for nude photos, etc.


This is not a new phenomenon.
