Its about oil and controlling it, the historical reality between Iran the U.S. and British especially from the early 1950's on explain why and how we are here. Frankly i am wondering when instead of merely seizing them Iran starts slinging some Silkworms into a few and shuts down the Gulf. They did within a week gas here would be 8-12 bucks a gallon...and as soon as first American/British bombs start raining down on Iran America/Britain would be attacked from within by Hezbollah and Hamas and how many others. That would require martial law...and then there would be response by Russia and Red China...

What is Iran thinking? I really hope the U.S. DOES NOT get involved. Leave this to the Brits unless they ask for assistance. One thing is certain now, the E.U. can no longer pretend Iran isn't a warmonger.

Stena Bulk is a Swedish company, so it's a Swedish company that own the ship Stena Impero (a relatively small tanker vessel) however it is operating under a British flag and no doubt has a multinational crew, such is the nature of modern merchant shipping. The Swedish company Stena also opate a well known European Ferry company called Stena Line, and it is this that they are most well known for, and both companies have their headquarters in Gothenburg in Sweden.

Stena Bulk: Home

Welcome to Stena Line

The Philippines has emerged as the biggest supplier of seafarers on international merchant ships followed by China, Indonesia, Russia and the Ukraine. Indeed the Philippines with a population of less than 2% of the global population provides 20% or one in five of merchant seafarers.

There's also nothing to say there aren't American crew on boaard these ships, and it's likely that at least a few of the crew may be British.

Ships tend to fly under flags of convenience, often due to regulatory and tax reasons.

It's also been announced that the other ship flying under a Liberian flag, was released and allowed to continue it's journey so it's only one ship and not the two that was being reported.

Top priority should be getting the crew back safely. You can bill Iran for the ship later.

They broke sanctions. Made it legal. Iran OTOH acted like pirates.

Reinstitute convoys. When Iran gets frisky, destroy their assets.

Are they keeping all the crew members as hostages from both ships?
How many people would that be approximately?

Start arming all of the ships, or have warships provide escorts. Blow the iranians out of the water if they try to intercept ship.
