I remember when they broke up AT&T for much less.

There is no monopoly here. There are alternatives that people can choose to use.
There is no lack of competition.

Quite a different comparison to AT&T and the bell system that existed.

They are not stupid. It's an informal cabal of like minded thinkers. There is no diversity of opinion among these tech giants. That is why they need to be investigated.

While Democrats disingenuously wring their hands and lecture and gaslight the American public about "Russia, Russia Russia!!" with scary tales about Russian "bots" and $15,000 worth of Russian FB ads swinging the election towards Trump, the single biggest threat to honest and fair elections in our country is right under their nose and they could care less.

Liberal professor and 2016 Hillary supporter testifies that Google has the ability to manipulate and effect the votes of anywhere from 2.6 million votes on the low end to as many as 10.4 million votes on the high end.

As if this isn't alarming enough, this is the same company that chooses to work with the Chinese government but won't work with our own country's military. The most powerful company in the history of the world is literally working with our biggest geopolitical enemy and the biggest threat to our country yet the left wing media is nowhere to be found. The same media that is pulling their collective hair and throwing a fit over a few thousand dollars worth of Russian FB ads which they consider a grave threat to our democracy somehow doesn't see a problem with Google working with our biggest enemy or see a scenario where China could "attack our democracy" or interfere with our elections.
I would love Google and facebook to be broken up. Sadly this won't happen.

DuckDuckGo is a good alternative. No tracking, nor records kept.

My response was to a poster calling for them to be broken up declaring them monopolies.

None of them will be investigated. They are too important to those few and powerful in government.
Antitrust complaint was first filed against Google in 2009 in the European courts. It has gone nowhere.

Just like AT&T and room 641A...nothing will come of it.

A friend told me that about google and face book
Then my friend directed me to look at the links of over the top radical insane stuff and look at nothing else
I pointed our we were both retired from investigative jobs
And we’re both pretty good at discerning lies
Beware the fox guarding the hen house

The problem with Epstein is that he has a standing feud with Google. He had a website, and it contained malware. Google issued a warning to people going to the website that it contained malware. Epstein protested that his website was clean, but then discovered that Google was right. His website had been hacked and did have dangerous malware. Then, instead of owning it, he complained that Google should have helped him identify the hack and clean his website.

Epstein's criticism of Google in the case of being pro-Hillary may be very true. But she still lost the election, so Google's manipulation didn't influence the outcome of the election, did it?

Google chooses to work with Chinese businesses, just like they work with American businesses. The reality is that Chinese business is more intertwined with the Chinese government than American business is intertwined with American government, and that makes dealing with Chinese business more complex for a company like Google. It doesn't mean that Google is bad, though, or that Google's actions with Chinese business are bad. I think it does mean that Google has to act more scrupulously in its interactions with Chinese business.

A monopoly isn't the same thing as not having any alternative competitors or choices. A company can be considered a monopoly when it's share of a particular market dominates that market to such a degree that all other competition is dwarfed and any competitor that begins to take even a modest share of the market from them can be easily eliminated through buy outs.

There have been start up competitors that were bought/eliminated by Google and Facebook as soon as they started to make any headway at all in the market. In other words, These companies are able to buy out and in some cases buy out and shut down these competitors.

When a single company...Google (and Youtube which is owned by Google), for example, are able to dominate basically 80% or 90% of both the search engine and social platform categories then you're talking about a single company controlling nearly the entire sector of a market which by default is every bit the level of a monopoly on par with some of the famous monopolies that were broken up in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

If true, this is very dangerous.

If someone is told something over and over and over again from multiple sources, they will tend to believe it, even if it is not true. By selecting which sites are listed on the first few pages of a search, Google can definitely influence public opinion and elections.

Yes, this is a very dangerous situation.
