I live in Ireland and don't think I've ever met more than two people even then, none of them had gone through with any surgery which I would expect since its very expensive unless you I think people blow this out of proportion due to sensationalism bias from the media. The reality is that even in the most accepting and liberal areas of the West, very very few people are transgender for anyone to make a big deal out of it.

The bathrooms are the same issue. Maybe it's different in America but here I've never seen an argument over transgender men or women using a bathroom.
Why would I worry about mentally ill people?

They are different. And having spent a lifetime enjoying the females of the species I am not going to swing over now.

They are however perfectly reasonable and rational people. They are in no way sick.

And actually our transgender cousin is one of the saner people alive. Can you imagine the head of a huge organization changing from male to female. And apparently all agree it is OK.

Yes, gender dysphoria, which is a mental illness. Like any other people with a mental illness, these people need help and treatment. Just as we wouldn't encourage an alcoholic to drink or a person with OCD to touch this glass, we should not encourage people suffering from gender dysphoria to act on their unhealthy behavior.

My cousin has no doubt what her gender is and will point out that the one she was lacked acceptability as it was not the same as her physical gender.

She dealt with it for 60 years and then fixed the problem as far as she and his family are concerned.

I wish her well and hope to do a trip to Catalina with her. Nice big boat.

The DSM classifies trans types as people with mental disorders, at least the version before 5 did. Not saying, just saying.

I actually have no beef either way.

Like most of our politicians, he's mentally challenged in some form. I wonder about the educations these people have. It's basic biology ffs.

Not very common at all, well less than 1 percent.

However, this "lifestye" is being pushed big time. And that is no accident...

That sounds about right. The statistics I've seen have shown about 0.3% of the population to be transgender. It's not particularly common, but if you're in a large organization with thousands of people, it's almost guaranteed that there will be a few transgender people included.
