1st degree murder is when they should get the death penalty.

Best punishment for a child rapist and murderer is general population in a high security prison which is hell for the criminal rapist before he even gets to the real hell. In general population he will pray for death.

On death row they are held in safety and segregation. Sad... they need human contact and being in general population these vermin and sure to get plenty of human contact especially when taking a shower.

Not everyone will get their "punishment." In references to my above post, look at what this low-life said to fellow inmates:

"Bourgeois hit [2 year-old] JG in the head with a plastic baseball bat so many times that her head “was swollen like a football.”   Later, when he was in jail, Bourgeois laughed to a fellow inmate that “[t]hat f---ing baby's head got as big as a watermelon.”

Bring on the death penalty.

The worst example of a human seems to be Alfred Bourgeois. If you have the stomach, then read Part B, C and D near the top of this page:

That thing in the court opinion is not even human!

I don't believe in the death penalty under any circumstances. Primarily because people who have not committed crimes may be executed. But also because any criminal, especially violent criminals, rapist, child murderers, etc., it is easier to die IMO than to live. A greater punishment would be some sort of very difficult work for 16 hours a day.

I think we all understand that.

How many people have been put to death for a crime they did not commit?

I'll be all for the death penalty the day that prosecutors and LEOs can guarantee no more innocent people are killed.

I don't believe it is a deterrent. People heavy on testosterone and light on brains never think they will get caught.

I don't necessarily have a problem with the DP for certain crimes in PRINCIPLE. Unfortunately the government has proven that they are incapable of using it in a way I would be morally comfortable with in PRACTICE. Thus they should not bring it back.

A total of 144 prisoners have been exonerated while on death row since 1973. No doubt a percentage of those who were executed were innocent of the crime they were executed for.

How many innocent people being sentenced to death is too many? One? 10? 144?

Locked up in solitary for life is worse punishment than execution.

I'd say I'm on the fence on this question. There are strong arguments against the death penalty but one argument in favor is the use of the death penalty as a bargaining chip. Taking the death penalty off the table in exchange for guilty pleas, revealing the whereabouts of a body, etc.
