Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has filed a federal lawsuit against Google for suspending her campaign’s advertising account following the first debate in June.

Google had suspended the campaign’s advertising account for six hours from June 27th into June 28, immediately following the debate while searches for her were trending.

The lawsuit was filed in a Los Angeles federal court on Thursday, the New York Times reports. They are seeking an injunction against Google to prevent them from continuing to meddle in the election and damages of at least $50 million.

Good for her! Shine a light on Google and make widely known what many already know!

This seems like actual election interference.

Google did nothing wrong but will settle for quick couple mill to avoid the heat. That will keep Gabbard's hopeless vanity campaign going for a few days longer than it would have otherwise.

IF her "advertising account" was pay-per-click, then it makes some sense for them to suspend ... because it's possible that people could coordinate (bots, whatnot) and drive her spending astronomically. example, you have a $0.05 pay/click account and a budget of 1K/mo. month after month, fairly consistent activity. one night *bam* your 1K is reached - system automatically locks it up.

Now, does this also point out the online behemoths who have no real people that can be reached by phone/chat/whatever on an immediate/as-needed basis?

ABSOLUTELY.

50M is literally like the coins underneath the sofa cushions for Google. They make that much every 5 minutes.

Bump that up to 5B and you maybe get their attention.

Google’s arbitrary and capricious treatment of Gabbard’s campaign should raise concerns for policymakers everywhere about the company’s ability to use its dominance to impact political discourse, in a way that interferes with the upcoming 2020 presidential election,” the lawsuit said. “To this day, Google has not provided a straight answer — let alone a credible one — as to why Tulsi’s political speech was silenced when millions of people wanted to hear from her.”
This. There is a very real impetus to classify some of this stuff like utilities, and needs to be addressed by congress instead of rehashing over and over $100,000 in Facebook ads.

Welcome to the world of GOP candidates throughout the nation Ms. Gabbard. Sucks, doesn’t it?
